This one showed 10 FPS faster on the Chrony. Interesting your pull-down shows .2gr's more as well  8)

Beings the bullet is solid it is shorter, more case /powder room.  Read about the base section of these bullets being smaller than 0.4000"  :o  That would be less frictional surfaces, it would also lead me to believe they would be less accurate at long distance.  ::)

Has anyone tried the cycling on these yet, and actual
gelatin test at 10mm velocities?

I have to do the Chronograph testing. No issues in my Limited and I sent a couple for gel testing.

Hey folks, first post so I thought I'll add something of value.

I'm in the process of cloning the current UW 140gr Xtreme Penetrator bullets. I pulled a round from a boxes which I bought about 3 month ago. Batch: D0302-005, Item: 648

Looks like UnderWood backed down by 0.6gr and 50 fps.

Here are my results (differences in red):

Cartridge is from Ammo Manufacture: Underwood 140gr Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator (100% solid copper)
Ballistics Information: 10mm Auto
Muzzle Velocity claimed on box: 1500 fps
Muzzle Energy: 700 ft. lbs.
Brass Make/Headstamp: Underwood - Brass
Bullet Make/Weight/Construction/Info; Length 0.6300"/Dia. 0.3955": 140gr XP
Actual weigh 140.344 grains, Crimp Diameter 0.4200[/b]" *
MEPLAT  0.2400" (wide cross)  (inner cross) 0.1500"
C.O.A.L.: 1.2530"
Primer: Large Pistol Nickel color
Case: Diameter 0.4210" Crimp Diameter 0.4220" (Light Crimp)Length 0.9870"
Powder Description/Positive ID/Type/Charge Weight: LongShot  11.182 grains

Hello Crockett and welcome to the forum!  Very nice scale, good pull-down too...great photos as well  Thanks for sharing!

BTW
Quote*Base was smaller @ 0.3955" crimp area 0.4000"
this was in reference to the actual bullet diameter at its base and where the crimp or end of the casing would be.

The
QuoteCrimp Diameter 0.4000" *
This measurement is if there was a impression or not left on the actual bullet as crimped, this would be measured after the bullet was pulled.

Nice work!

This one looks backed down from the powder data?

Which Sartorius scale is that? Love them, a bit pricey, but buy once, cry once.

Thanks guys.

I still have 3 mags full of old 10mm Underwood Xtreme Penetrator bullets. I'll compare velocity to the new batch soon. According to UW the new ones will be 50 fps slower.

This guy had a G20 Kaboom just recently with current UW Xtreme Penetrator bullets. Not sure if this was posted here on the forum, but I think it's a good fit in this thread nonetheless.

Not sure yet if I'll be aiming for 1550 fps with my clones. My HD firearm is a G40 with Wolf barrel, Ghost Rings, 2 x 30 round mags and UW Xtreme Penetrator bullets. I'm cloning the UW loads for cheaper practice rounds with the bullets from LeHigh.

The scale is the Sartorius Practum64-1S. Bought it from a MNM Scales on eBay. Perfect transaction. They take offers and I got mine for $1364 including shipping.

It's pricy but so far I'm loving it. It truly weights down to the single kernel. I have a weak spot for commercial / lab / quality grade products.

@The_Shadow: do you have a post explaining your procedures in measuring the crimp diameter after pulling etc? I want to make sure I get it right and correct my data if needed.

Crockett...hope this sort of helps you get a better understanding, m tools are not quite as scientific as those you are working with.
See #1)The crimp line for the bullet; This measurement is if there was a impression indention ring or not left on the actual bullet as crimped, this would be measured after the bullet was pulled.  Say the bullet is a 0.4000" diameter, during the crimp process some bullets stay the same size or get squeezed down smaller where the casing pinched in on the bullet.  example is 0.3995" or 0.3990" measured with the knife edge of the calipers.

See #2) Hollow point depth can be tricky, as most are tapered from top to bottom, some are stepped and some like the Sig bullets have a very tiny hole below the initial cavity.  I have had to do a dirty measure using a tiny piece of wire to fit inside to transfer that measure to the caliper.  These may not be a very precise measure but more or less to show that the bullet has other properties in it architecture.  Just general info to describe what was found...

Meplat can be tricky as the edges are rounded over, I try to measure the flat diameter itself.  For the Hollow Point I work to measure within the inside the copper jacket

Cartridge is from Ammo Manufacture: (the ammo that is being documented)
Ballistics Information: 10mm Auto
Muzzle Velocity: (advertised) fps
Muzzle Energy: (advertised or based off the velocity and bullet weight) ft. lbs
Brass Make/Headstamp: (What's on the headstamp) - (What is the casing made from) Brass, Nickel plated, Steel, Aluminum, etc.
Bullet Make/Weight/Construction/Info; Length 0.6790"/Dia. 0.4000": (who makes the bullet & weight)
(#2) HP depth (measurement to bottom of cavity) / HP Dia. tapered cavity, inner cavity  (descriptions of properties) / HP mouth (outside the edge diameter)
Actual weight (bullet weight) Other Notes: (flat base, concave base, tapered, etc.) #1)Crimp Diameter (distinct line or impression caused by crimping action if any) (other notes like bullet sealant)
C.O.A.L.: (Length as assembled or as received)
Primer: Large Pistol, Small Pistol, Other, Nickel, Brass, other color of the primer (primer sealant if any, some are clear and hard to see)
Case: Diameter (measure of the case just above the extractor cut) Crimp Diameter (very edge of case mouth as crimped) (light, medium, heavy crimp description on what it took to get the bullet free)Length of casing (measured casing length)
Powder Description/Positive ID/Type/Charge Weight: If known, if not and guessing ? ? are placed. Actual measured charge weight...

Thank you for the explanation, now I got everything. I'll work along those lines as good as possible.

A quick heads up -- I loaded a few over 11gn of Longshot, worked well for me :) Casings seemed fine, I'll try to take a pic tonight.

Edit: Used new *- casings.

Thx ;D

FWIIW, a picture. Case head expansion is .0020" (no reference data yet, sorry. Keep in mind it was fired in a SIG. YMMV)

Edit: forgot -- the crud around the primer is sealer. Ammo is destined to be lugged around in the woods...

This ammo cycles fine through my Glock 20.

Has anyone put the new load over a chrono?
