I was watching this last week. I figured it go for more than I wanted to spend. Cool pistol though.

How does Colt not bring these back?
The first one.... I never knew was made. Not too surprising for me.
I've noticed a few multi sales of Pythons lately at ......well, absurd, prices? It seems some people with 'real' money have jumped into the gun market as a way to make money. Not just as a long term investment. It's to the point someone is making fake original boxes. Maybe they think the 'bubble' is now and it's time to cash out. Beats me. I wanted a Python many years ago and couldn't afford one, glad now that I bought one a couple of years ago before the prices got insane. And mine is not some rare model, just a run of the mill 4 inch in Royal Blue.
Due to the labor costs involved in production Colt will never again make a revolver like the Python. Too much hand work with polishing and hand fitting of parts. Simply a product of a different time.
If they made them what would they cost?
I would pay $1,500 for a 4 inch SS Python.
(I will not buy a used one for crazy dollars, my .357 Smith is nice enough.)

That was about the cost when production ended in the early nineties. By then they were a Custom Shop only order. Just by inflation comparisons that amount would be around $2500 today. I have no idea what pricing now would be to make it a profitable item. Too much skilled labor involved to make it viable. Colt will still do repairs at a $70.00 per hour rate. When new they always had a significantly higher price than a comparable Smith. Percentage wise revolvers aren't a big factor in todays market anyway. Since Colt has lost most of their government contracts they may again make a revolver. Probably something like the King Cobra/Anaconda would be a good guess. Who knows....I certainly don't.
And I only paid $275 for my Python 6 inch blue but then that was in 1975. Still have it but haven't shot it in years, may have to take it out and shoot it.
If you look at the prices for them on Gunbroker you might want to sell it. :)

I have three Pythons. A used 6" 357 and a used 8" 38spl target that I used to shoot. My 6" 686 Smith will out shoot both of them and it has at least 10,000 rounds through it.
My other Python is an 8" 38 spl, NOS which I have never shot. All 3 have the deep bluing. Truly beautiful revolvers.
Nice, my 686 is sweet, but the Python is just something.
