Title: Banned from Glocktalk
Post by: Raggedyman on October 23 2014 08:41:39 PM MDT
Eric banned me for posting a link  to my last article. That's not even my blog, in case anyone was wondering. Real pissant move, I think.

Sorry to hear they made this decision. What did they give for a reason? If it wasn't advertising in anyway, I just don't understand.

Banned from Glocktalk....

....is that a bad thing, or a good thing?

In an age of free email and web proxies, the idea of "banning" an actual, contributing person is funny.  If they really wanna stay around, they will.

We are glad to have you and your posts, even if they link to your blog, here.

Glock talk is a business. They are out to make money and they don't want anyone pushing an outside website. They have so many ads I refuse to use their site. Last time I checked them out I had two popup ads, one for chevy and another for John Deere, and a big flashing John Deere ad at the top of the page.

They can keep it.

No ads here, ever. Guaranteed.

One of the many, many reasons this is one of the best forums around, You the man Patriot/Grim! :P

It's their loss Raggedyman, if they want to miss out on the information you have and are willing to share, it's their problem. Myself and I'm sure others here very much enjoy reading your articles and I don't believe you'll ever be shunned for sharing them here, keep up the good work!  8)

Here is the message:

QuoteYou have been banned for the following reason:
After reviewing your recent posts, it is pretty clear that the only reason you are on the site is to poach traffic for yourself and inspite of the warnings you have received, you continue to do so. I am not going to keep playing this game with you.

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Eric told me that I wasn't allowed to post links to my YouTube videos. I think that's retarded but I complied with his rules. He said I was allowed to post the results and pics of tests with a link to my channel in my sig line, which I did. He did not say I wasn't allowed to post a link to an article which has links to my videos in it, on a blog that doesn't even belong to me. I got no warning in regards to posting the article link.

I post on quite a few gun forums. Most of my posts are in reference to my tests and/or articles. The articles often reference my testing. I also post from time to time in other threads if they're interesting but I'm not a super poster on any forum except maybe Arfcom. No other forum has ever told me not to post links to my videos. Good content doesn't drive traffic AWAY from a site. Good content drives it to a site. Eric is a pathetic fool who doesn't understand how the internet works.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I could probably even write a script to create a couple dozen identities for me up to the Captcha part and then just manually enter that myself if I wanted to be really annoying.

The whole thing was BS from the beginning. I had been posting my tests and videos in the 10mm forum for months and even had a tacked thread in the reloading forum which consisted entirely of my videos. when I did a test of another caliber (don't remember what it was) and posted that in a different forum. That's where he locked the thread and sent me a terse message about "advertising." He got REALLY pissy when I told people what he did. If you can't stand behind your actions in public, maybe you shouldn't be doing what you're doing.

The whole thing could have been avoided if he had just acted like, and treated me as, a grownup.

I use adblock for Firefox so I never see that stuff anyway. I've got no problem with the business. If he wasn't a moron, he'd realize that having good content drives traffic to his site and increases ad revenue.

I got along fine before Glocktalk and I'll be fine after. I'm really grateful for all the stuff I learned in the 10mm forum over there, which was mostly a result of help from you folks, anyway. Like my sig line said over there, I was just there for the 10mm death ray talk.

I belong to a bunch of forums.  There are only four I really put any degree of effort into.  In order they are:

#1 - Here.  I try to stay logged in during the day whenever I can.  When I am really busy at work, like the last month, I just check a few times a day.
#2 - WeTheArmed.com  Every time I check in here, I check in there.
#3 - At present #3 is steelsoldiers.com.  I have it bad for an M35A2, and have an agreement with the wife that should put me behind the wheel of one next year.
#4 - Cast Boolits.  I was really active there at one time.  I still check in quite often.  I get emails about all the new posts in the alloys sub forum.

I like it here and we the armed best.  I visit for fun.  The others I visit for purpose.

I like this place.  I don't post much, though.

The only other forum I frequent (albeit more than here) is sksboards.

The ban may be a complement to you.

Personally, I see GlockTalk as being bad for the gun owning community. Some of the antics from members should have Glock telling Eric to remove references to their product from the site.

Still, it's like watching a train wreck, I'll look to see what's being posted.  :))

And you can still read the "10 Ring" posts. Posts there are more intelligent.

------

I send most all ads to the void and did not realize what people were complaining about till I visited the site from my phone. I had to fight ad pop-ups to get to the posts.

BTW, general tip, the Internet is a much more pleasant place with JavaScript (and cookies) turned off. I have them off literally 99% of the time. It's rare for a site to insist they be on, if one isn't wanting to log on. If a site insists, I decide if it's worth it.

You likely drew the ire of the mall ninjas.

Their G20s and G29s rule.  If the bad guy doesn't fly as far as the ejected brass, then you just grazed him.  If you hit him in the torso, then there is an upper torso and a lower torso, and they aren't attached to each other after the shot.

NoScript and Adblock are great adons for Firefox that let you get what you want out of teh interwebz without giving much up. You can set NoScript to allow benign scripting while blocking the more annoying/harmful stuff or you can set it to specifically ask permission for each site before you allow any scripts.

I wouldn't even be on the webz if it weren't for Glocktalk.

That having been said, I think Raggedyman brought a lot to the table there just as he does here and I would like to see him reinstated.

I know a lot of people love GT.  I stopped visiting right after I signed up years ago.  It just seemed like a schoolyard.

Never been a member there but have read a lot of threads on the 'Ten Ring'. It's GT's loss with the ban...
