I'm looking to try installing a flat bottom firing pin stop on my Kimber stainless target II and I see two different ones at midway. There is the Wilson Bulletproof Square Bottom Series 70 and then a few by EGW that are oversized and some say they are Series 70 and one says Series 80. Which one is appropriate for the Kimber stainless target II with adjustable sights?
Also, if any are a drop in fit that would be preferable, as I'm no gunsmith, and there aren't any trustworthy gunsmiths in my town, I have to mail it off to someone or drive a long way. If I have to attempt handfitting, what abrasive tool should I use? A file?
Since the Kimber uses the Schwartz style firing pin block I am pretty sure you are good with a Series 70 stop.
All will need a bit of hand fitting. A file is the right tool for the job.
On my guns I have generally had to file a bit from each side to narrow the stop a bit. I try to take equal numbers of strokes on each side so it stays "centered".
For thickness I file the tabs to fit each side. If you have a micrometer you can take measurements on your existing one and file to within a couple .0001"s and test fit.
It is pretty straightforward to fit. If you have concerns, check google and youtube for instructions.
Finally, do not file the radius to match the one you are taking out. A different radius profile is the goal. You want to just barely break the edge off the bottom. I find one or to mild strokes with a very fine file to be plenty. Then I polish on a stone or on denim.

Mine is a series 80.
Everybody told me a Series 70 for my Kimber Eclipse Custom II. Nope. Series 80. But with a Dremel and a couple hours of time in front of the TV a Series 70 FPS can be converted to a Series 80 FPS. :)
I went with the EGW oversized. Take your time with the file, apply a very slight radius to the mating surface, and you'll be fine. Lots of test-fitting.

Why does a kimber use a series 80 firing pin stop the more I look at it the more I don't see the purpose I have fit a series 70 to mine and it seems to function fine.
