First of all, I changed my screen name. I wanted something a little happier than Grim Reaper.
Second, I'm going to be working on the website a bit, tinkering with the layout and colors, and possibly coming up with a new logo. Our current logo was designed and created by my ex girlfriend, and she has asked that I stop using it once I find a replacement logo. >:(
Third, I have attached a photo of the way our post count ranking works. You will see that anyone that reaches 10,000 posts will become a Life Member. A Life Member will be considered part of the staff and have some minor moderator abilities like deleting inappropriate posts or moving a thread to it's proper location. Obviously anyone that makes it to 10,000 posts would have proven themselves worthy of that level of access.
Thank you everyone for making this the best forum on the web.

I'm only 5000 away! ;D
My bonus Daughter does graphic designs. I can ask her to take a look if you have certain ideas you want to incorporate.
Gulp.......not looking good for me..... :o
But on the other hand.....I have something to 'shoot' towards. :P

Opening a thread for Logo Submissions?
It would be fun but they're are too many legal issues. No way to guarantee that someone's submission didn't use copyrighted material. Don't want someone coming after me.

I like the current one!!!!
Tell her she did a great job with it and there is a forum member that will pay $100 for the forum to have the rights to use it for life!

Thanks for the clarification. I saw a post today under your 'new' name and thought who the ____ is that? At my age I have to consider dementia. :)) Sorry about the relationship problems after the move and all. It's your 'house', do what you think is needed.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The woman that made the logo is not my current girlfriend. We broke up shortly after she designed it a few years ago. I'm very happy with my current girlfriend, and we just had a baby and got engaged.
Well, in that case I think congratulations are in order. Congratulations on your recent fatherhood and upcoming marriage.
Congrats on the child and the engagement!
Looking forward to a new look..

Double Congrats!!!
Get the new lil Patriot a NAA 22 mag for the crib! ;)
I will be looking forward to what you come up with...
Love is having them sign a "Work for hire" agreement. :))
You should be able to make a logo. 'gimp' is a free "photoshop"-like program. http://www.morguefile.com/archive has license-free photos. One might make a decent background for the logo. You can use 'gimp' to add text and merge other images like bullet holes and 10mm pistols. Logos are nice, but the content here makes the site.
Two other suggestions:
1) Posts are truncated if "bad" characters are included. But, the user does not see that when the post is previewed. My main suggestion is to map bad characters into something like an underscore ( _ ) or some other benign character rather than truncation the post at first encounter. (Don't map them to spaces. Bad guys can take advantage of that..)
2) To spend your money :) how about going to SSL for the site. i.e. https://10mm-firearms.com
The cost is annual fees for a SSL certificate. Helps with privacy. And protects our login credentials. Without this, our login user ID and password are passed through the 'net as clear text.
I think all firearms related sites (any site involved in freedom) should use SSL. One example I ran across is https://www.okshooters.com
It's a start. Unfortunately, the site designer was not aware one must encrypt all sections of all pages.
Only suggestions. Things work as they are. Thanks for the site.
SSL on the cheap:
https://www.namecheap.com/security/ssl-certificates/comodo.aspx
About $8 a year for a cert. That is really about as cheap as you can go for decent service. There are some free providers out there, but they all have issues from time to time.
Harrygunner, I think the special character thing has been fixed for some time...
Test °æ "help"
yep...Handled em all.
Great about the truncated posts. Are certain characters and strings modified or deleted before passing onto the database? That was my original impression of why posts ware truncated. But, of course, I have no insight into this site's backend.
I suspect you're an IT guy. I just like to dabble in things. Glad this site has great administrative support.
Some characters are now straight up supported, like the degrees° symbol.
Others get swapped, like curly quotes.
Patriot does a good job of keeping us patched. I don't know his IT background.
I am a database architect, but have also worked as a software dev and done a fair bit of sysadmin work in my teams development lab environment. Plus troubleshooting over the year.
I did some computer training in my early days of the Navy when they sent me to Radioman school. Radioman have now become the Navy's IT people. So I picked up some basic code writing which helps on the inner workings of this site's programming. I can do basic stuff, and know my way around Photoshop which helps too. The good thing about SMF software is that there are tons of people making mods and are willing to share their secrets. So that helps.

I'm liking this! Some member firearm pictures somewhere in the mix would be nice too!
My suggestion would be to "grey it down" a little bit to match the background. Then throw some bullet holes in it and it will be good to go! 8)
I have to say;
I do like the new Handle 8)
And I'm only 9,331 posts away :P
