Title: Buffalo Bore 220 grain Hard Casts
Post by: radiotom on September 19 2014 05:00:01 PM MDT
These aren't as wimpy as the Double Tap ammo, aka they don't lie about the velocity, and they are not nuclear juiced like the Underwood 220's that people have reliability problems with.

Looks to me like the only issue is the cost per round.

Does anybody have any experience with the Buffalo Bore 220 grain Hard Casts? Reliability problems?

The Underwood hard cast go through my Witness (Limited Pro) like candy and the only problem I have is staying upwind of the lube cloud when shooting them.

My G20 has feed issues, not because of the heat of them, but because of traditional feeding problems due to the long OAL and that big flat nose.

Yes the cartridge overall length may be inside the SAAMI specs but the relationship of the wide Meplat still makes the cartridge long, with respect to it's tipping angle, as it slides from the magazine and up into the chamber.

Double Tap adjusted his cartridge overall length in his loadings to 1.2420" for these wide Meplat projectiles, that may also be the reason why the powder charge was also dropped to compensate for the deeper seated bullets.

While this link is for 38Super the info will make sense for the 10mm cartridge as well as others when you study the data and  illustrations.  http://38super.net/Pages/Overall%20Length.html (http://38super.net/Pages/Overall%20Length.html)

I have found, like Geeman, that my EAA guns will feed rounds that others will not.

Yes, I have a Gen 4 G20 and haven't had any issues with 220 grain Buffalo Bore hard cast bullets.

The 220gr bullet MEPLAT (0.2900") of Buffalo Bore is more like a TC or FMJ design which aids in feeding.

Just shot about 35 of these...two had blown primers.  :o All primers were flattened...

Don't have this problem with Underwood...

What firearm? In most all cases it is the firearm. If you had one remaining The Shadow could pull it down.

RadioTom, can you post pictures?  I have seen some high impulse pop the primers out, if the pocket is stretched or loose to start with or a smaller diameter primer...

These things can be felt when handloading as a "touchy / feely" priming when you're doing your own... :)

I had issues with a LW barrel in my G20 last year doing the same thing but with UW 220. I ended up being the chamber being tight on the barrel.

I don't suppose you have a new large pistol primer to see if it drops inside?  That may indicate if the pocket is stretch out.
Primers can and do pop out for various reasons including high pressure events.

You guys think the rest of these are safe to shoot?
Should I contact BB?

I can't chronograph them for a month or so since I'm in the process of moving.

They maybe but did you find any leading issues the could have increased pressure?  You could still contact BB and let them know they may send you replacement ammo...
If you get to keep them you could send them to me for pull down documentation and comparison to previous pull downs. ???

I noticed all the BB 220 Hard cast I have shot have the flattest primers of any 10mm I have ever shot. I haven't blown one yet, but boy do they flatten out. Way more than Underwood.

I had a friend from college nicknamed Dieselman. He was a big guy, and if you pissed him off he would run over you like a diesel truck.
