It doesn't get any better for a 10mm deal like this!

You got my attention with this. A little over a year ago I handled a few EAA 10mm pistols in a tiny little gun shop. I didn't care much for the polymer, but the others felt comfortable. At the time I knew nothing about EAA. Now I know slightly more than nothing.

I've shot the Delta Elite, which I find very comfortable, but I'd like more capacity than the 8 round magazines. I've shot both the G20 and G29. Both handled reasonably well, but the Glocks just don't feel comfortable in my hands. They feel like I'm holding a chunk of lead pipe.

I'd like to find a 10mm that I can carry open or concealed, in the woods or on the streets, with plenty of rounds for any undesirable encounter. I'd also like something a pleasurable to shoot at the range as the Delta.  I might even hunt with it depending on my range and accuracy.

What do you all think, would this pistol fit the bill?  Any recommended mods to make it fit the bill?

Thanks for any advice.

Funny you ask about an Elite Match vs a 1911 right now.  I am LITERALLY sitting here comparing my Witness Elite Match to my Para P16.

They are almost exactly the same external size.  Differences in any dimension is less than .25".

In that space the Elite Match is short .25" of barrel, but has 7 additional rounds of ammo. (The Para really shines there, but that isn't the comparison).

If I were going to carry my Witness Match, I would replace the extended safety with something a bit smaller, like the standard witness, or maybe just take a file to it and contour it how I wanted.  And I would seriously think about dropping in a DA trigger and hammer.

In fact the reason I have them out is my Para is my standard EDC now and I was considering dropping the Match into the mix.

The other consideration I would have is durability of the finish.  The Match frame is hard chromed, but the slide is blued and probably wouldn't stand up well to daily sweat from carry.  But if it had an issue it would be easy enough to blast it and cerakote.

Those are the issues that i have been contemplating.

If you want one without a rail:

I personally don't have much use for a rail on a carry gun.  Some do.

That's what I have been looking for. They used an old picture as the text says it has a rail.

That sucks.

Mostly off topic, but I was also looking at a compact and thinking of putting a 4.5" slide on it.  Kinda a CCO concept on a Witness.

What do you guys think about either a Witness Compact or Fullsize Steel for $420. Part #s 999230 and 999220 respectively.

Yes, I know I mentioned possibly hunting, so that would exclude the compact, but there's no law against buying two.

Also, I see that the Match is SA only and the others I mentioned are SA/DA.  Are these pistols designed to be carried cocked and locked like a 1911?

As I said, I don't know much about EAA pistols. Thanks again for any advice.

The SA are just like 1911's for the safety. You can also change the trigger out if you want to go SA/DA in the Match, or just get the Limited Pro DA/SA.

Having disassembled both Witness and 1911 guns, I would not say the witness safety is nearly as strong as the 1911 safety.  But it is plenty strong enough.

I'm looking forward to trying out a Witness Elite Match this weekend. What holsters are you guys using?  Also, do the holsters fit all Witness models or only the Match?  I would probably open carry mainly, but if it's concealable, I may do so on occasion.

Thanks.

I think in would like one if these, with the rail.  First, I should get a Hunter, though.

I'm building my own version of this Gold Match (Hunter frame) which be available here in 2015.

It probably would have been not far off just buying one considering what this is costing me.

- $175 for the Chrome plating. That's a little cheaper than I expected.
- $350 for the grip panels, safety and hammer.
- $40 for two custom made base pads.

About $575 and I already had the fiber-optic front sight on my slide. No transfer fees though and mine won't have the slide lightening cuts. I still might get the 9mm Xtreme Match to give me that 6"!
