Title: First 10mm Rounds with Longshot Powder
Post by: 10mm-Admirer on August 04 2014 07:11:55 PM MDT
I started shooting 10mm and reloading for my 2 G20SFs and Kimber ST II back in April.  I have since become quite the 10mm fan.

Due to the powder shortage, I used Power Pistol until I was finally able to buy some Longshot off a fellow gun club member.  I had good results with Power Pistol but was eager to try Longshot based on all I've read on forums.

I loaded up some test rounds of 9.2gr of Longshot with 180gr Hornady FPs, Hornady XTP JHPs and Nosler JHPs seated to 1.250" OAL (CCI 300 LP).  This load seems to be a favorite moderate load with Longshot and 180gr bullets.

I shot some of the test rounds today and was really impressed.  The recoil was 10mm and accuracy was good.  All fed and ejected reliably.  No signs of high pressure.  Burned very clean.  The Kimber threw the brass as far as 20ft!  Unfortunately I don't have a chronograph.

I found that Longshot metered very well in my RCBS powder measure.  I'm looking forward to working with it more in the future.

How is the 1.250" OAL?  That length seems to be the most reliable for feeding in my limited experience.  I'd appreciate courteous comments and advice.  Thank you.
