45 super and 460 rowland loaded with the 200 and 225 gr 45long colt XPB barnes bullets instead if the weaker lower velocity tac xp line. These would likely be great performers. The length difference between the 185 tac-xp and the 200gr xpb is only .727 vs .757 , hardly noticeable. .812 long for the 225gr version.
Buffalo bore has the 185 moving 1193fps out of a 1911 at 45acp pressure. What do you think it could be pushed to at the 45 super or 460 rowland pressure?
Not being very familiar with the cartridges I could only say that the Barnes bullets are longer thus occupying powder space in the casings and adjustments are needed for pressures to remain safer.
If you get some stuff from Buffalo Bore or Underwood you could pull them down and have a look see... :D
Those Barnes bullets are nice but expensive, there are many 45 choices that would yield good performance at reasonable cost.
Good point. I would love to see some 240gr xtp 45 super tests!
I've never loaded any Barnes bullets. Have loaded some 200 XTPs at 1360 for my 460 Rowland. These were well under a max load that's supposedly over 1400. Read where some claim almost the same velocity from 45 Super as Rowland but I have no experience with 45 Super.
