Looking for alternatives or instock items for 10mm reloading. Can't find any longshot or cfe pistol. I have tried AA#7 in the past but only ran a few rounds.
I have 180 and 165 grain bullets.
Any suggestions?
You could make do with most powders...Blue Dot, Power Pistol, BE-86, AA#7, AA#9, LongShot, CFE Pistol, 800X, Silhouette
even 2400, HS6, Unique, Herco, Even the VihtaVuori powders N340, 3N37, N350, N105
I suggest you study all of the powder makers reloading data web info...however finding the powder is the problem.
Here is a link to various load data sites...be sure to make yourself a copy of the files to maintain for your use.

Out of the powders I've tried... Blue Dot and Power Pistol work best for me, 800x is great too but meters like crap.
As mentioned alot of powders will work for low - mid range targets loads... even ran a couple hundred of 2400 just to use it up. Not great but it still goes boom and is more accurate than I am with 180gr heads.
I am currently using Blue Dot. I have used AA#7, AA#9, and I believe HP-38 before. Unique is good for almost any pistol.
top velocity with 180 seem to be
Alliant POWER PISTOL
Accurate No.7
Accurate No.5
Hodgdon HS-6
Alliant UNIQUE
Hodgdon Longshot
Ramshot True Blue
unfortunately I have 800x , herco a bit if Unique and titegroup
found some longshot - cash or check only but they had it as well as some AA2200.

I looked at their website and can't figure out any way to see if what they advertise is in stock.
On the website it says call for availability and ordering...they only accept cash or check! (That seems risky ???)

Why are so many people attracted to the fastest velocity? To me, accuracy is what counts. I have never in 35 years of reloading found that the fastest loads are the most accurate.

My best 180 loads (accuracy AND velocity) have been
10.9gr AA7
9.2gr LS
8.6gr PP
None are as fast as a guy could go with a 180gr XTP but all of these loads have been extremely reliable and accurate.
800X is a good choice if you are willing to hand weigh your charges, it can provide some top end performance.
Underwood was loading with it for quite some time before going to the LongShot powder. His load at the time was measured at 9.4 grains of 800X
180gr Hornady XTP C.O.A.L.: 1.2590"
Muzzle Velocity: 1300 fps
Muzzle Energy: 676 ft. lbs
I didn't buy a 10mm to shoot 40SW velocity.

If you want to hard-hitting round then you want to hard-hitting round. The gandog56 is right usually the most accurate rounds Are NOT maximum velocity ones

This is true for me. I use my .40 cal for .40 velocity. But it's kind of nice to shoot two different caliber guns and use the same bullets. I run into the samer thing with my Mosin Nagant and Lee Enfield rifles. Both shoot .310-.312" bullets.
I've shot nothing but factory 40 in my G24 and got factory 10mm velocity out of it due to its 6.02" barrel. The reason I build a longslide 10mm was to get REAL 10mm ballistics. I agree the fastest loads aren't always the most accurate but there's no reason not to get as much as you can while maintaining that accuracy.
I'm currently experimenting with Blue Dot. My loads are going to be for hunting and to quote Elmer Keith "two holes bleed better than one". ;D...For personal defense you may want .40 velocity out of you 10mm or a lighter hyper fast bullet that doesn't over penatrate and causes alot of trauma. What you plan to do with your handgun will dictate how far you want to push the envelope of power and velocity.

Aw go on!
I own BOTH! ;)
PS. Just picked up 2 pounds of longshot at my local Cabela's today.
So trips and calls to local Cabelas resulted in zero long shot.
ON my porch no, not the man in brown waiting patiently for my signature again, was brown box of powders.
8 lbs longshot and 8 lbs of AA2200. ;D All as promised from http://www.cacassociatesinc.com.
Currently I only have access to blue dot. My 10gr loads under a 200gr XTP shot very nicely at 1200fps. I'm gonna work up more. Some guys say their going as high as 11gr but I don't think I'll push it past 10.5gr. It will all come down to what's the most accurate since a 200gr XTP at 1200fps will kill anything I hunt on four legs there's no reason to push too far into the danger zone. I already know my G24 will drop a deer in its tracks at 48yds with a factory 180gr Rem UMC hollow point. Those chroned less than 1200fps and that bullet broke both shoulders and was recovered under the skin on the opposite side. Text book performance out of cheap factory ammo. Go figure.
I have too many different powders - I've been grabbing what I could find over the last 3 years and from reading every thing here I got carried away with " new powder of the month you need "
800x - 4lb,2 1lbs
PP - 4lb, 1-1lb
LS - 4- 1lbs
2400- 1-1lbs
BD - 1-1lbs
#9 - 1-1lb
Unique - 1-1lb
I'm going to par down to 4 - 800x,#9,LS, - the PP I load the 40's for my daughter and son. I'm still looking to get 4lbs of #9 yet and the rest I'm just shooting up to get rid of them.
Doug
I have 1 pound of 800X, about 4 pounds left of Blue Dot, and about 6 pounds left of Unique. I'm good for 10mm.
But I bought it all November the year Obozo got re-elected because I remember the shortages from his first election.
