any day at the range is a good day. I built a range in my backyard because I got tired of wondering if I was going to get shot by some idiot. I used to go to a NF range and within a 2 week period 3 people got shot by people who don't know what a cold range is. My son usually always goes with me and I just wasn't going to take the chance. I can get a 100yds and all I have to do is walk out the door. Sometimes I think the neighbors ain't real happy about it but here in GA as long as you have a good backstop that's all that is required in the county to shoot.
I'm looking for a place where I can do just the same.
There are many reasons I avoid private ranges. I pay a hefty amount more on my mortgage than some people but I can shoot pistols, and rifles to 400 yds, on my own property. Worth every penny.
Those of us that can still do this need to cherish every shot. The day may come that we will be forced to stop. I've never had much of a problem with neighbors except one time when a friend who works for a "team" overseas needed to practice. After about a thousand rounds in two hours the neighbors showed up with they're guns wanting to know what the hell was going on and if I was o.k.! I've got pretty good neighbors.
I am about to get a Conex Box 40' or 55' and use it as an indoor range. That would provide sound abatement, can rig a ventilation system, can get or make a bullet trap that will collect the bullets for recycle.
Here are a few traps...

DenStinett: in Florida the state law allowing the safe discharge of firearms anywhere supercedes all city and county laws. Guys like that choose to push the law to its limits and unfortunately make responsible gun owners look bad. In the city I live in a guy built a range in his yard in a trailer park. Back stop or not the potential to have a stray round kill someone is just too great for me to ever do something like that in good conscience. Last year another guy shot his neighbor while practicing in his back yard. There were no criminal charges but I can only imagine the civil suit. As a life NRA member I agree we shouldn't give up our rights but as a human being with common sense I think these people shouldn't do things "just because it's their right".

Hey Shane:
My point exactly
Just because it's not illegal to just off the Cliff, it's not always the smart thing to do
