Title: EAA Witness 10mm full-size wonder finish - should I buy this gun used?
Post by: sstewart on June 24 2014 02:55:15 PM MDT
I have a chance to purchase this gun, but I am trying to access whether I should?
I own a EAA Mitness match in 10mm AND:
45 long-slide
.22 long-slide
.40 long-slide
(all fit my match frame & function well)

Its not a great deal for $400, but not terrible. My dilemma is that since I put $100 down, I have to go thru with this or buy something else by 7-2-14.
Their price on a 9mm witness match is $689 (seems high) Also with sales tax & $25 chicago gun fee.
(I own an M&P 9mm (first pistol) But haven't shot it a lot since I discovered .45 & 10mm.)

It is square slide model in the back of slide, so I think I am safe, but not sure.

Questions for EAA experts:
is this frame the same size as my match

All advice appreciated!
is the DA/SA action a good thing. (I like the SA match)

1.  Yes.  My Match and full size uppers swap back and forth without issue.  The Match frame looks a little bigger but magazines, slides, etc are all interchangable.  The visual may be because of the difference in finish.

2.  The DA/SA trigger is no where near as good as the SA only trigger for target work.  it is fine for defensive use.  If you want shoot for milkshakes accuracy though you will have to spend a LOT of time dry firing.  Installing an over-travel stop would largely resolve this for me.  I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Well I bought the 9 mm witness match. This gives me two witness match frames over five calibers.
Really like the match platform. Really sweet 10mm but nice that a simple slide switch gives me 10, 9,40,22,45.

Hard to steer you away from this really. I love my fullsize witness but you already have a model that is "better" so its hard to say its worth it. Have you considered a Glock 29 to get as a CC weapon? Just an idea, nice size.

nope, cause I haven't like the full size glocks. I carry a S&W Shield in .40 right now. Haven't seen the need to change that. I intellectually like the idea of a 10mm carry pistol.
I just think the Glock 29 seems fat in width for a carry gun. Now the Shield in 10mm, I would upgrade for that. I don't think the mass numbers are there for S&W to make it. More likely to see a .45 to compete with Springfield.

Yeah, if anyone did a slim 10mm I'd buy it. Just has to have enough steel to be safe for the hot stuff for sure. The Glock 29 is one of my winter carry choices. I usually carry a Kahr CM9 for summer.
