Title: Looking for my second 10mm
Post by: Howfx on June 05 2014 02:31:00 PM MDT
I am really enjoying my entry into the 10 mm world, so much so that I am ready to purchase a second one to keep the G20 Gen 4 company. I have been looking at Kimbers and since I do not have a 1911 type pistol it seems like a natural addition. I would love to hear what everyone is shooting and maybe make a case for that particular pistol to be my new addition. Thx

What about a Rock Island Armory 10mm, priced right with what it comes with right from the company.  There are a few guys that have them the gun and like the chamber support and performance.  Fusion is another company that makes a great 10mm 1911 style.

Myself, I'm not the 1911 guy, as I started with the Smith & Wesson 1006 and then the others...however parts are getting harder to find these days.

That was why I got the Glocks, because of factory and aftermarket parts availability.

I may consider an EAA pistol in the near future... :-[

Shadow thanks for reminding me about RIA. Really like my G20 and it seems like most of the 10mm offerings are in the 1911 style although EAA has CZ roots. I like the Witness line of pistols but have seen a number of reviews with guns jamming what experience have you had with them?

Howfx,

I got a witness match at the first of the year and have not had any trouble with it jamming. I followed Intercooler's suggestion re magazines and only bought K-10 magazines-2 from Midway for about 55.00 ( that was all they had ) and 2 from gunbroker for 57.00.

All total, I have < 600.00 ( not counting the mag ) & this included the transfer fee as it came from Bud's.

The only problem I have ever had was a light strike  1 time and overall, I am happy w/ it. The trigger pull was about 4 lbs and I need to check it again to see if it has decreased any more

I think any time you can buy a pistol for 600.00 and the match came w/ a nice case, it is a good deal.

All total, I have about another 75.00 in it -a fps and a recoil rod -both from Henning

I am very happy w/ my Match and the $ I have in it and do not regret purchasing it.

My Match had drifted down to about 2.5lbs when I sold it. No way would I want it any lighter!

My Limited Pro shipped with a bad magazine.  It often had issues when there were three rounds left.

I also have three other k10 magazines, and there has never been a failure of any type with any of those magazines with any ammo.  100% reliable.

I also have a compact steel Witness that runs 12 round magazines.  Those magazines are crap and I advise staying away from anything that doesn't use the 14/15 round k10 magazine.

Did you send the bad one back for warranty replacement?

No, why would I want that frustration.

Currently it has a Gram follower installed, and has yet to be tested.

I guess I see your point. By the time you paid to ship it in and possibly return postage, it's a wash on a $25 magazine.

Might a suggest a Glock 29 for carry? Goes well with your Glock 20 you already have, plus you already have the Glock 20 magazines that will work in your Glock 29. I'm really not much of a 1911 guy, have a great one in .45 and that is enough. For a nice STEEL gun why not a quality full sized CZ 75 design? Get a brand new one and you'll have the new thick slide that wont be prone to cracking and it has an accessory rail. The EAA Witness (CZ75) is a great choice. Spend 450 for a standard one or 1,100 for the Limited. 575 for the match seems to be the one most people buy.

I think that's an oxymoron. But I agree that a 10 mm revolver would be way cool.

Sometime I would like to get my hands on an EEA, but I doubt that anything is going to come along and replace my Glock 29.  The G29 would complement your G20 very nicely and it is hard to compete with the availability of after-market accessories for Glocks

Not in that barrel length unless you go for a carry polymer.

Have you ever considered a Dan Wesson? They make a very nice 1911.

Here are my two. I just got my RIA back from having the black nitride treatment at H&M Metal Processing. I actually like it better than the Eclipse. Steve

I would give a Rock 10 a try. The trigger on mine is simply amazing.. Like it came with a trigger job or something. This is at 10 yds. Steve

I'm looking at a third one right now.  That 6 inch Para looks interesting.  I looked at one in a gun store and it has a ramped barrel also.

I had a Kimber target that was one of the most accurate guns I have ever had. It also shot ever weight bullet to same point of aim. Never did jam even once. I have another Kimber and it seems that when it gets broke in, it may be on par with the first one. I still would like to try a Fusion 10 though!

I have 4 10mm's  I guess your budget would be the determining factor :)  I think I'd like a low round count DW off GunBroker, reasonable great gun.

Don't forget the 10xx series 3rd Gen S&W's...or the Star Megastar in 10mm!!

I've got a G20sf & a S&W CS45...hunting a 1066/1086/any 10xx series now...
Arguably the toughest 10mm's outside of a Star Megastar in 10mm :)
