Title: What is the going rate for once fired 10mm brass?
Post by: SagSlim59 on May 02 2014 08:03:54 AM MDT
Talked with a fellow shooter that wants to sell 1K of once fired 10mm brass...have no idea of what the going price is.
I am saving all of my brass to begin to reload a.s.a.p....A quick search online has me leaning around 5 cents a casing??

but really, I will defer to your help....thx

That's a decent price for used brass if it is not a trash brand or severely bulged or "Smiled"...

I will say you will want to inspect it, if not "smiled" you will still want to run them thru a "Pass-Through" sizer to recondition them...

starline new runs about .16 each...
.05 for used in good shape I would buy if you don't.

That is a great price.  In general, when I can find fired 10mm brass, it is close enough to new starline that I pass.

If I were finding it for 5¢ each, I would jump on it.

Here is an update on the brass...just talked with him a while ago, and he has a total of 1K brass but appx 350 of just the
10mm....The rest 38-40
Den and gandog...He is willing to sell at 5 cents a case, so, I told him at that price...I will take them all to add to my
collection so far
Thx again for the input....btw....I am posting the "rest of the story" in the revolver section...SS59

I just got 150 once fired off of Amazon for $25.00 . The majority were Underwood & Starline but their were 32 PPU. Has anyone ever used PPU brass ?

Many PPU's have had issues with some blowing out (ask Geeman or look for his post)
That being said we were just discussing that I had loaded a "USED" PPU brass with an SwampFox load 200gr Gold Dot @ 1240 fps.  It was shot from a Glock 20SF today without issue... :o

I finally got up the nerve to shoot a few of the new PPU rounds I've had since I blew up a reload.  I smash up the fired cases so no one digs through the brass barrel and uses them.

The factory loadings are weak.  I have a feeling you may get along fine loading to that low of a level.   I would never trust PPU brass for loads approaching SAAMI pressure limits.  You might get away with it, but I did not.  My Glock 20 frame serial number no longer match the upper serial number, and I have a letter from Glock explainging why.

Geeman...shadow,

Good to know about the ppu brass. I bought 50 rounds to see what they were like...I will sort them separately
going forward. The bulk of my casings are underwood,  pbr and hpr.
Geeman....glad your ok from the kaboom

I'm pretty sure none of the brass I have to sell is PPU. And I am only selling it because I got a bunch of new Starline the last time 10mm was available.

Thanks for the input on the PPU. I guess putting 8.3 grains of Blue Dot under a 230gr DoubleTap hardcast wouldn't be a good idea ? Is FC brass Federal ? and is it any good ?

I like the Federal brass,  FC is Federal.  Blue Dot is a good powder to work with, it may not get you the highest velocity but usually accurate and clean when pushed...

I have re-used some PPU brass over the years but like mentioned there have been some that were garbage. :(

Well....picked up the brass today with the Blackhawk 10mm and I heard wrong...not 350 but
850, mostly nickel plated federal rounds. I hope at 5 cents each it still is a good buy, because I bought them all. :o
