Title: Yea I don't get it. Stuff on GunBroker
Post by: Intercooler on July 22 2012 08:22:30 AM MDT
I don't know who this fellow is that built this one but... it looks like it has been used pretty hard for $5,000! Plus what will it do a much cheaper option won't?

I also found a $900 1006 that had a misleading ad so I reported it. It was listed as used (and had plenty of scars to show it!) but in the text it said new. GunBroker said they were looking into it but still haven't cancelled the auction. It can't be used and new and the seller has 17 negatives for the same similar thing. Kind of makes me leery of GunBroker.

I looked the guy up but not much comes up. Guess he is a GunSmith but pretty much an unknown out of California.

This "style" was popular back in the late '80's.. IMHO its dated... 5000... WOW, personally, I wouldn't pay half that for the gun..

It's a known fact that you can 'ask' any price you want for something but this guy does seem to be stretching that idea a 'tad.' :o   Or, maybe he's been drinking too much of the bong water.

With firearms being about the only thing retaining value in our current economy I suppose it's only a matter of time before some of the 'fleabay' crowd moves on to the gun auction sites.

Maybe he is just trying to tell his wife he is trying to sell some guns.    Hey he listed them for sale ,  not his fault no one wants to pay way to much for it.

In the description is read;  We have been in business for 20 years. We pride ourselves on our competitive prices and great customer service.

So I'm thinking;  Competitive prices to what, Barrett 50 caliber rifles?

If Chambers, Rogers, Rodgers, Chen, Burton, Yost or any other well-known smith had built this I could understand the price.

Love the carbon fiber grips, though.

That starting price is ridiculous...doesn't look like it sold (no surprise).  I bought a custom 10 mm 1911 in MUCH better shape than that one for $1900.

That pawn shop is just down the road from me in Tempe, AZ and I've gone in there a number of times.  USUALLY they do have pretty reasonable prices on used guns.  I have no idea why they were so silly proud of that beat up looking 1911!

Off topic, but about Gunbroker.....at least a seller. I was looking at a new Kimber and thinking about buying the thing so I looked at the sellers feedback. Mostly good, but one complaint about buying a new Kimber and it arriving dirty, scratched up etc. Seller sells as is, no returns......anyway, their reply was to take is up with Kimber warranty. So, I sent a polite email asking if the photos in their ad was of the gun for sale. That was yesterday morning and no reply. Btw, the auction was a relisting for only 24 hrs.

I say steer clear... Too many "flags" for my taste...

Good luck,' CW

I totally agree...I'd definitely move on.  If the seller doesn't respond quicker than that I would be wary in any case because communication is a big part of a successful transaction.  Another Kimber will surely come along soon!

Most of the time it doesn't take much to know who's standing behind what they are selling and who's not, on the internet or elsewhere.
