Hey all as the title says Underwood just posted some 10mm 180 GDHP (1300fps) and the rarer Delta Elite 180 gr GDHP (1240fps) up. Not sure how long it will last. It has been a while since they have had either.
He's had the Delta Elite 180 GDHP (1240fps) for about a week but the 180 GDHP (1300fps) IS brand just went up this evening. Thanks for the heads up, I've been waiting for the Underwood 180gr 1300fps Gold Dot. Just put an order in for some. :)
What's the difference between the two?
Although we never got to do a pull-down of the Delta Elite loading of the Underwood, I would have presume it has a little less powder therefore a little less peak pressure at the 1240 fps value.
Based on what I have personally loaded and the pull-downs I'd say about 0.2 - 0.4 grains depending on the powder.

Not to sound like a petulant toddler, but why? Why have less powder/velocity?
Short Answer:
The Colt Delta Elite is a modified 1911; not sure
if issue is related to feed ramps or lack of case support but
hottest ammo could cause problems.
Some firearms can't handle the pure power of the 10mm ;D

Does this apply to any other 10mm 1911s, or just the Delta Elite?

Delta Eite, or any similar rampless barrel designed by JMB. The ramped Kimbers, etc. are fine.
It mainly had to due with the lack of case support of the DE by design, cases were ballooning around about 180 degrees around the chambers at that level. That and some may have been opening to early. Oh well! ::)
If you have a need for Norma spec full house loads by all means use them. If you use your 10's for EDC as I do, I don't need them. I prefer not to beat up my firearms when there is no need to do so. My 2 RIA 10mm are shot at least once a week for 50 rounds each. I don't want to get one loading out of my brass; I want it last a while. I keep all my 180gr loads down around 1230-1250fps.

I believe the DE loads are Nosler, not Gold Dot.
Greg
Is Nosler Bonded?
I haven't seen Kevin load anything other than Gold Dots in the DE 180's. It would be new news to me.
The DE load shows Nosler when you click for more info, and it says nothing about "bonded"
The full power load shows "Speer Bonded" and I assume that is the Gold Dot.
Greg
I see. Not my cup of tea and I haven't purchased any. Nosler it is!
Just purchased some they are noslers. But i have a stash of the gold dot de loads.
Shot 30 of these today. That's some sexy brass these are loaded in. :-*
Got mine yesterday. Will be going to the range this afternoon. Going to fire two magazines worth to ensure they will cycle and the mags are still good. Then I'll shoot some TMJ.
Based on advertised speed only what real difference(s) does 60fps make? Recoil, bulges, expansion, penetrating.....?

One guys opinion; 5% difference in initial fps likely to have:
Negligible effect on recoil
The initial lower velocity of the Gold Dot very likely to reduce projectile expansion a bit thus increase penetration (gel).
Bulges - Wouldn't anticipate any difference if shooting 1240 or 1300 fps ammo in ramped, full case supported firearms BUT as has been well documented by others in this thread; firing 1300fps 180gr ammo out of firearm like Colt D. E....difference of 60 extra fps could lead to catastrophic failure.
To me the recoil feels a little lighter.

The same difference as standing a few feet farther away, as that is all that takes to loose those 60 fps.
