Ammo was fired from a 100% stock glock 23. This looks to be a good woods load for the 40s&w.

Finding this is good timing. I am going to work up a load for a G23 that my wife will carry in the mountains. In my initial research, I was figuring that I would work up to the low sixes of Long Shot. This confirms that I'm not too terribly off the mark. With that light smile, 6.0 might be about right. I'll do some workups and get groups on paper, and I'll post results in the "other cartridges" forum when I get to it.
I need to order some more Beartooths since I don't quite have enough for a thorough workup. So my report might be a while.
Curious, was any chrony data collected for this, by chance?
I really like this load for my G23.. I have shot about 200rds of this with 0 issues. Would like to see some actual velocity data but do not own a chronograph.
Looks like a really solid option for those preferring to carry .40 S&W guns. I see nothing wrong with this at all for defense in the woods.
A while back Rocky Mountain Reloading had pulled 180gr Federal HST's for sale, I bought a 1000 of them.
Looking at Hodgdon's website for a 180gr XTP showed a max charge of 8.0gr of Longshot. So working up carefully
I arrived at 8.0gr. Out of my M&P 40 compact, these chronographed at 1175 fps...Now I have a Glock 22, that showed 1225fps of out the 4.49" barrel. Let's just say in the gel test it expanded to over an inch in diameter.
That is a hard hitting load, and I've been tempted to send some of these out for pressure testing just for shits and giggles. Now if it is within pressure limits which I am 99% certain it is, why would Federal offer
something with a little more oomph behind it.
I've actually tested this with the pulled Federal HST's and Speer 180gr Gold Dots. Let's just say the HST's are built much better to handle this extra velocity, the Gold Dots, on the other hand look like Tnoutdoors9 10mm 180gr GDHP Underwood test.
