Title: new 10 mm pistol introduced (Grand Power)
Post by: Marc on March 14 2014 06:31:44 AM MDT
Grand Power is introducing a 10 mm version. Made in Slovakia, they feature a rotating barrel which helps soften recoil. The name is tacky, but reportedly they're pretty well designed/made. STI imported a batch of 9mm as "GP 6", so maybe they're the ones to ask for a US import.

Cool I will look for one tomorrow at the gun show.

Polymer it looks like.  This might be a piece of Tupperware I would opt for in 10mm. Wonder what the specs are?

Interesting pistol, but the lever for the slide stop looks flimsy...I'd like to see and feel it in person before I make a decision.  ???

Yeah, I gave a heads-up to the 10Ringers over on GT.

This pistol, to me, looked like it had some M&P-ish aspects, while another poster thought it had CZ-lines.

Personally, I like the barrel/slide length pictured above, rather than a 6" LS or such.
I also don't like cheesy fiber-glow front sights for breakage reasons, but that's my preference.

As always with any new 10mm pistol, the essential requirements are going to be (1) reliability (which means gun AND magazines have to run hiccup-free) and (2) durability over time on a regular diet of real 10mm ammo, not just looking good shooting the .40-duplicating fodder.  8)

I'll pass on this specimen but at least we have another manufacturer offering a 10mm.

Depending on who sells it, hopefully the price isn't inflated.

Should send to CZ and tell them to get with it. Intresting comment from article. A renewed interest in the 10mm in the United States.

I doubt the 10mm version having slide ports. Ambi decocker, mag release and slide release. The guide rod is secured with the cross pin, rotating barrel with fluted barrel. Hammer fired!

More 10mm guns produced the better.  Maybe one day we will see 10mm ammo at wallyworld.......................nah

I wonder how that rotating bolt will stand up to repeated use of full power ammo. I know it works on the Desert Eagle but that is a completely different system.

I can't wait to hear some range reports!

I like the hammer fired design also. It kind of reminds me of an H&K USP.

My old Beretta PX4 Storm .45ACP held up just fine and I was shooting Swamp Fox and Doubletap through it. I know the Beretta shotgun I just inherited has a rotating bolt as well.

My bigger concern is the chamber support. If someone can e-mail or post on that board our questions, that would be excellent!

BTW... I don't know exactly how much recoil the rotating barrel kills, but it has to help if you think about the principal.

You can take the trigger guard off as well. Possibly a rounded version offered?

I dig some of the features on this one and would honestly make this my first plastic 10mm.

Most excellent video if you watch in 720p:

I'm stoked on this one!

If you watch at :24 and even through the take-down you can see the chamber. Looks totally round with no ramp like a revolver. I bet it could handle some hot stuff!

I wonder if they will be doing a pre-order? I'm on it for my first plastic 10 when they give the info!

The barrel is really clear in here. BEEFY and it looks like the round would be supported all the way around with no ramp. Look at the locking lugs on that bad boy  :o :o

The barrel and chamber are beefy looking. The next thing I would like to see is a pic of the barrel with a round in the chamber.

Your video shows it sliding all the way in to the extractor groove.

Intercooler, in the OP's pic of the 10mm variant back on page 1, how long is the barrel, if you know?
Obviously, it's not the 6" LS version. I'd want that set-up, as pictured, less the fiber-opitic FS.
Thanks!

I sent out some questions with no response yet. It has to be in the 4.5" range.

The ejection port is on the left side...that's interesting!  To me the weakest spot was the rotating cutout...
Still need to have a physical look see! 8)

The P40/P45 barrels are 108 mm/4.25" long.

Here's a pic of the 9 mm chamber.

Well...darn! I invited the MFG to this thread and hopefully they show up. It looks kind of like a Delta but a little better. IMO that barrel gap needs to tighten up for us 10mm guys.

Stop by their FB page and ask questions or tell them what needs changed for us 10mm shooters.

They have some nice scenery on there if you know what I mean  :P

You can get different slide finishes as well:

If the barrel improves for the 10mm rounds, it's a winner.

Keep in mind that the distance from cartridge base to top of the extractor groove is a good bit larger on 10 mm compared to the 9x19 mm case. My guess is that the same throat would mean full support with a 10 mm. And the solid part of the case heads extends a bit beyond that.

Where's all the scenery?  ???

Yeah, I think that 9mm barrel isn't supported as well as we would like for 10mm. I hope it is different for the ten. These guys have to de their homework. I hope they realize 10mm is more than just a glorified .40 S&W.

David (in the video) confirmed Eagle Imports will be offering these. It's just a waiting game on the ATF at this point. Henning Walgren had a nice video of one running in full auto on his Facebook page which was impressive.

I'm very interesting is seeing one in person.  Looks like a CZ/Witness/HK/M&P.  Nice.

I use my Glock 20 in wilderness almost daily. I count on it. I would put this gun in the High Standard 45ACP level until proven. :D
