Shadow , Thank you very much for all that information . I just ordered a Lee 6 cavity 175 grain Truncated Cone Beveled Base mold . I like that Lyman 156 gr Devastator HP you have there . I think I need to get one of them .
Thank you very much for the video , very impressive .
Can you tell me what alloy you are using ?
Lyman discontinued that mold from the line but still make the other calibers.
However you can have the Lee mold conversion done http://www.hollowpointmold.com/ (http://www.hollowpointmold.com/)
Erik is a very nice guy and he has this one for sale for $99

Mostly straight wheel weights air cooled...The one in the video that Raggedyman tested with I sent to him. The base of the one he shot exited the top of block, it was devastating to see the block jump up so high and the wound channel.
A lot of people don't understand that cast bullets can be very effective even as a defensive round.
This was 2 bases @ 1400 fps into 4 gallon water jugs...

Wow , That is very impressive . I just ordered that mold from the link you posted . I never did cast any hollow point bullets before , just RN , and SWC .
The Lyman mold is a single cavity and has a pin that you have to turn and remove before opening the mold to drop the bullet, then you have to close the mold and put the pin back in...it is slower.
The two cavity mold from Erik has the cramer style pins, I think you open the mold and tap the bar to have them fall out. Some have a bar that moves I'm not sure this new mold is setup that way.
That 6 cavity mold will make plenty bullets fast, when I was running the 4 and 6 cavity molds, I actually had two 20lb pots running, they can drink some metal. The Lyman pot, I used to fill the molds and the LEE Drip-O-Mattic, I used to pre-melt alloy, to top off the Lyman pot as need.
When I work with the HP molds, I work as fast as I can, to keep the molds hot for the best fill out.
Shadow , Thank you for the link , and info on the hollow point molds . My new hollow point mold came Today in the mail . Eric does a really great job on the conversion , and he shipped it out right away .
I can hardly wait to start casting some hollow point bullets , with this new mold .
Thanks again for all the help ,
Ted
Tomcat 10, you're very welcomed!
Post some pics when you get some casted!
Here is an article I put together on a Lyman mold and casting for my 10mm Auto

Are there bullets that aren't cast???? :)) ;) :D ;D
Here's my favorite:

Here's a lighter version of the same design:

Hunter , Thank you very much for the link , with all your info .

When I first started reloading back in the 60s cast bullets was all that I used . I was able to get to get brass , and wheel weights for free . I didn't realize how good I had it .
Oreo , Thank you very much for the links , and info . Super nice looking molds , and designs .

Hunter that was another good article, thanks!
Over the years of owning my S&W1006 with adjustable sights, I have shot many cast bullets from it. There was times I used to shoot it on the rifle range, 130 yards to the berm. I regularly would bust skeet that we placed on the dirt, then the challenge became to see who could destroy the pieces. It was interesting to see people with scoped rifles not being hit what I was hitting with that 5" barreled pistol. My co-worker begged me, to leaving him something to shoot at with his 30'06.
No, I don't consider myself an expert, but back then my eyes were pristine, and I make great match grade ammo to shoot with to include cast bullets.
BTW, the co-work handed me his rifle to test his scope setting he work on most of that secession. I told him to hand me the handloads I had loaded for him years before for his other gun. They had been behind the seat of his Ford 4x4 truck, the box had even got damp and the brass had some green corrosion on them. I took out my pocket knife, scratched off the build up off, and chambered the round to test with. These were 165gr Speer Spitzer Boat Tail loaded over IMR3031, I settled in with the scope crosshairs centered to the middle of the target, he already had 3 shoots in the 1" circle, however my handload although old and crusty hit 1 1/4" high splitting the vertical line, I had told him that they would shoot flatter, thus the higher impact.
The moral of this story, if there is one?...Is that you get out of your ammo what you put into it! ;D
I refined about 250 lbs of isotope lead last night. If it weren't raining today, another 400 or so would happen.
I shoot the Glock 20 and 29 with Lone Wolf barrels. I have shot the 180 Oregon trail TC, The Lee 175 Tumble Lube and Non Tumble lube and I just made a bunch of N.O.E. 200 WFN and 180 H.P. They were heat treated to 22 BHN and work great in my 40's also, just a bit slower.

Nice bullets, but why so hard? Straight wheel weights are more than hard enough, even driven at the higher velocities.
What do the HP's weigh?
Anyone have any load data for power pistol using cast bullets ?
erdyalx , very nice looking bullets , but like Shadow stated , why so hard? Do the HP bullets expand , or explode into tiny fragments ?
