Title: HS-6 Loaddata.com question.
Post by: trugbilddrachen on February 06 2014 02:27:16 PM MST
Bullet: 180 Speer TMJ FN or GDHP
Powder: Hodgdon HS-6 8.2grn Max:9.2grn
Vel: 1001

They use CCI 350 Primers... I use Federal 150 Large Pistol. Can you use the same charge with the Federal Primer?

Brass is Starline. COL is 1.255

Thanks

The use of that Federal Primer should be fine...Hodgdon actually shows a 180 grain Sierra JHC with HS-6 using 9.4 grain loading @ 1127 35,800 psi  which is still below the 37,500 psi max.

Yes there is a difference in bullet length with the JHP being slightly longer than the same weight FMJ.  Also the solid copper bullets are way long for their weight, due to the fact that copper is a lighter alloy.  That needs to be taken into account as you work at the upper levels of performance.

This is why having plenty of data files especially ones with pressure readings can help you with decisions...

Good luck to ya!  ;)

I've been using 8.0 grns of HS6 with an Xtreme plated 180 gn HP with Fed primers. Shoots accurate in both my G20 and G29.
