Title: springfield xds .45acp
Post by: krafcheck on January 31 2014 05:04:29 PM MST
anybody shot this one?  looking for a .45 and small one.  these are slimmer than the G36. i know the 3.3 were recalled and the issue for new guns have been resolved and a lot of the recalled ones that have been sent in.  3.3 or 3.8 inch barrel matter much?  wouldnt think 1/2 inch make a difference (thats not what she said) :))

the G36 is basically a 3.8.

how good is the grip safety on the xds?  i have read complaints they are not as good as 1911's.  they are smaller or something.

XDS 45 is my daily carry and an excellent gun. I am able to pocket carry it in cargo pants and cargo shorts. Very accurate and easy to shoot. I load it with Speer Gold Dot 230 grain short barrel. Highly recommended.

I just recently worked up some loads for my Dads XDS and it was very accurate and reliable.  He was carrying it everyday but decided to switch to his 5.25 in 45 for the increased capacity.

thats a sweet looking gun.  looking at internet pictures you can see the difference in g36 versus xds in size.  i wonder how much difference it makes.  ccw

i just may have to venture from glock. too bad the g42 is not a 45

I have 4 XDS two in 9mm and 2 in 45. All of them function fine. Excellent carry gun.

This is a cross post from another forum, but  are my first impressions of the XDs in 45.

Well, I finally got a chance to put some rounds through the XDS.

I will say that it handles very well for a light pistol. The first three shots fired went into one hole at 15 feet. After that, the group started to open up (shooter induced). Together, me and a coworker/buddy fired 200 rounds through it. This is most definitely a carry gun as you know, and is not intended as a range gun. The stiff recoil spring soaked up some of the recoil. Muzzle rise wasn't bad for a small .45, and follow up shots were quick and it was easy to get back on target after recovering from the recoil. My buddy, a big former Marine nicknamed "The Duke," had no problems with the small grip. He did comment that the seven round extension mag would be better for range work, but acknowledged that it would defeat the purpose for concealed carry. After 100 rounds each fired, we were both done shooting it for the day. We fired 100 rounds of Speer Lawman fmj and another 100 rounds of Speer 230 grain Gold Dot. The Gold Dots were noticeably "snappier" in terms of recoil.
The gun fed the ammo and ejected brass without a hitch. It ran like a machine. There were no brass to the face issues either. We both agreed this was a good purchase. I got the standard version, and my buddy got the stainless, which is a nice gun metal type grey. He paid $50 more for the stainless model. Both our guns are post recall models, and thus came from the factory with the upgrade included.

I am a loyal Glock guy, but I must say the XDS is slimmer than the G36/26/27, and was impressive. Made in Croatia....who cares? It worked and it worked well. When I get a chance I will put some more lead through it.

We are happy with the purchase.
