i think they are cool and all but what are the odds they would be really useful? i would have identified the target before firing. my g27 sights still glow but when using a flashlight in dark room i can barely tell they glow. maybe they are just getting dim or something but they just dont seem to be an advantage.
Not in my opinion. I have never owned a set and think a laser or flashlight is the better option.
I'm like the guy wearing a belt AND suspenders. I have one gun with a set of fully adjustable fiber optic pipe sights AND Crimson Trace laser grips. I also have one with tritium sights and Crimson Trace Laser grips.
Flashlights, ehhhh...give your position away. A laser dot could be hitting you any angle. If you're not looking right down the beam you wouldn't see the source. Night sites assume you can at least dimly see your target.
Not exactly. Get a strobe type tactical light and let someone activate it in a dark room facing towards you. You will be shocked!
Except that tritium sights don't require batteries.
But you can't see your target with Tritium sights.

Maybe, but that usually means the bad guy can't see me, either.

Makes me wonder just where that tattoo is!
When I worked in law enforcement we did some night shooting with the local deputies. They carried S&W revolvers & we carried Sig's with night sights. During daylight hours, their scores were essentially the same as ours. However, at night we had twice as many hits on target. The shooting varied from very bright lighting to pitch black.
This was before rail mounted lights and our Sig's had no rails. I prefer having a tactical light mounted on my pistols when they do have rails. But, from my personal experience night sights are very valuable. There can be situations when you have the advantage by not shining a light & relying on night sights. And, as norahc said, tritium doesn't require batteries.
No, you don't want to shoot blindly at a target you can't see. But in reality, in most situations you will be able to see without a light on. But you won't be able to see sights that don't glow & you will miss half of the time in training (as the deputies experienced) & more under stress.
Yes, tritium lights can be invaluable. They are well worth the price.

Intercooler has a good point with the tactical lights. I tried this at home. When someone is shining a tactical light directly in your face it can tell you where they are. But, it is so blinding that you can't see your own sights. At least I can't & I have to rely on point shooting rather than lining up sights. I will be more likely to miss. I do like night sights but tactical lights are great. I use both on any pistol with rails.
