thinking of getting a subscription. when i go to book store i thumb through them all and pick my favorite at the time. Combat Handguns is usually a solid choice for me but it all depends on the articles at any given month or so.
You can do a lot of them online for free. I usually down the PDF and read them at my leisure.
Gotta admit. As much as I like the idea of downloading a pdf to say, a tablet, and reading at my leisure, I still prefer the feel of a magazine or a newspaper in my hands.
The one thing I like best about getting my monthly American Rifleman, is that I just leave it at work for others to read as well. Really ticks off the liberals when they come in, and see a couple of American Rifleman mags sitting in the middle of the table. It's like a big sign that says, "Bill of Rights.... in your face!!!"
I subscribe to quite a few...too many really, but I suppose my favorite is American Handgunner.
I subscribe to American Handgunner, American Rifleman (NRA), Handloader, The GCA Journal. American Handgunner was the first I ever subscribed to and is still my favorite.
The only Gun magazine I get as a subscription is "The American Rifleman", through my life membership with the NRA. I have subscribed to some at time in the past...
That being said I read through many at the various stores where the sell the magazines, and if I find some interesting articles I may purchase it. However, I am sick of seeing nothing but 45ACP and 1911's on every cover and ads throughout every magazine being sold! :'(
I do read some on-line when they are available...
I stopped everything but the American Rifleman (I am a lifetime NRA member so I get it anyway) and G&A. G&A isn't the "best" gun magazine in my book anymore, but they still give a pretty good synopsis of the newest guns/ammo that are coming out. Combat Handguns is a good mag too. But quite frankly, I spend so much time on internet gun boards these days that it is making gun magazines obsolete.
I like Guns, and American Handgunner. They seem to cover most of the bases, and the photography is great, along with regular columns by: John Taffin, Pat Covert, and Mike Venturino.
American Handgunner is my favorite... and Guns is often very good as well. Combat Weapons is a distant third.
Of course, I'm extremely partial to Field & Stream since its pretty much ALL ABOUT my hobbies... :)
I can't find a single gun magazine on the market that is anywhere near worth what they charge for it.
With all the ads and the articles being just great big ads they should pay us to read them.
Umm.... google :D lol
I like the yearly G&A Buyer's Guides and their CZ Special Editions that double as the CZ Catalog

I hate Shotgun News since it seems to be about 95% advertising. Not a whole lot of actual articles.
Ya, I used to like Shotgun news when I had my FFL. But, now I read Shooting Illustrated, Rifle Shooter, and American Handgunner. Have subs to those. Might pick up a copy of Guns, or whatever at the grocery store from time to time.
