I've been thinking of changing my 180gr XP self defense load that I use in my G20 and 310. I've never chronoed the load out of the stock glock barrel or the 310 but like the velocity from my 6" Storm Lake. I tend to have 180-200gr XP of Nosler sports as I hunt with them but was thinking a lighter bullet may be better from the shorter 310 barrel and keep some of the 10mm oomph. Thoughts?
mlk3454, have you toured the 10mm "Pull-Down" section here on the forum? http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/ (http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/). These are from commercially loaded cartridges and you can study what they are using.
For you shorter barrels you my want to look at loadings with Power Pistol or IMR800X powders as they are a little faster burning, thus yielding more velocity from the shorter barrels.
Good luck!
My vote is PP for my 29sf with a LW 4.6" 2port barrel. meters very well in XL650, 800 I have to hand load. Plus I use 800 for my longer 20sf LW 6.6" barrel and MT for my hot hunting loads - those have to be hand loaded anyway.

I tend to carry the Underwood 165 grn. hollowpoint load in a G29, haven't had a chance to see if it works on a two legged predator, hope I don't. I use heavier bullets in my 1076, it likes them better and I do too.
My SD rounds are Underwood 180 gr XTPs in both the G20 and 29's. Kinds expensive to practice with.
I tend to carry the 180gr XTP for my SD rounds with Power Pistol. I just figured a little lighter hollow point might get pushed just a bit faster to give a better ft. lb. of energy to the target if needed.
Really, its just winter and I am tinkering more with my reloading than a need to find "the perfect round." :P
I forgot to say that at the moment I carry Georgia Arms 180 gr hollow point amo in my 29sf 4.6" 2 port barrel - I like the that round and before I started reloading I had the chance to pick up 300 rds at 21$ per 50rds, I wish Intercooler would break down that load to see what there using so I can duplicate it. I live about 40 miles or so from Georgia Arms and its hard to get amo from them now in 10mm they sell most of it at the gun shows and its gone before noon.

The Georgia Arms 155 gr. and 180 gr. Gold Dots were done look here; http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/georgia-arms-155gr-180-speer-gdjhpp-pull-downs/ (http://10mm-firearms.com/factory-10mm-ammo-pull-downs/georgia-arms-155gr-180-speer-gdjhpp-pull-downs/)
165 gd from underwood in 29/20 Glock but it's alittle 2hot probably for shooting people. So I say factory hornaday ammo
