Title: 10mm 1911
Post by: Henri311 on January 13 2014 12:28:58 PM MST
Hey y'all! In the market for a 1911 in 10mm. The cheapskate in me wants the rock island, the hunter in me wants the para hunter elite. I can afford the R.I.A. out of pocket. I would have to sell something for  the para.Is it worth selling my G20 and replace it with the para? Just buy a G20sf later? Get the RIA? Your thoughts and counsel would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

There was some talk of the G-20's being discontinued, but I can't say for sure...maybe the 3rd gens is what they meant?  ???

You also lose 1" with the RIA. The RIA has a bull barrel, which is a plus IMO.

Are you stuck on a 1911? You lose capacity as well, so let me plug for a nice Tangfo!

You know where I stand. My Para has been excellent. I've heard the good and the bad about RIA but I do think it would make a nice into into the 10mm 1911 platform. You can always upgrade later. There are reams of post on this forum that are worth your time reading to help you make the most informed decision to fit your individual needs.  This is all coming from a guy that loves the 10mm round but has had a disdain for 1911's chambered in it, until now.

For the versatility of having both the capacity and the choice of 5" or a 6" configuration, and for a little over the price of para, the STI 2011s are a good choice as well :)

I am a big fan of double stack 1911/2011 designs.  You won't go wrong with either the Para or an STI.

I have a Para P16-40 Franken 10mm and am still working on building a CCO 10mm on a Para P12 frame.  Worked on the upper lugs of the barrel last night.

Just to add to the confusion, STI announced a new single stack, 5" 1911 at the SHOT show.

Keep in mind, for those who like to build your own 1911's, Caspian makes a wide body frame that also can be built into a 10mm. I know, I did it.

Also, Dan Wesson makes that same frame into a 10mm, but is extremely expensive. It's the 10mm Titan.

STI 2011s are awesome. I used to have a custom build using a caspian longslide with a schuman barrel fitted to a STI 2011 frame (longslide variant). Novak did some amazing work on this project. This gun was an amazing shooter...how I miss all the guns I used to own.....

For clarification. That was the point I was presenting. If STI responded to demand of a certain caliber by interested customers, well they did. Kudos. Right from the CEO's mouth. Ill give them that.

CZ were to make a nice 10mm model it would be a must have piece.  I have posted on the CZ facebook page many times about needing a 10mm model pistol of the CZ design.

The Bren Ten 10mm was modeled after the CZ design by D&D as envisioned by Col. Jeff Cooper.  The original Bren Ten's rifling is set back and has plenty free bore before the rifling starts, called Power Seal Rifling.  It was touted as a Combat Pistol.  The Bren Ten gun was the first 10mm gun and designed for the cartridge, which was produced by Norma at the time, and was more powerful than what D&D originally specified.  As we know Norma sent 200 gr FMJ's @ 1200 fps and 170 gr JHP's @ 1300 fps, this is easily achieved with modern powders of today.

There is talk from VLTOR that they will produce the Bren Ten, but this has been a bust since 2008.  In there Jan 2014 letter they stated it will happen, so only time will tell.  Time will only tell if this will see the light of day!

The closest weapon to the CZ design is being made by Tanfoglio for EAA, Intercooler and others have some of these models.

Not sure how CZUB feels about the 10mm, but CZ-USA seems to like the idea
If 10mm was to become an option on the CZ97 from CZCustom, I think there'd be a following
