Title: David ran a Glock 20 ammo test
Post by: Intercooler on January 05 2014 05:36:11 PM MST
It's been a long time. Watching it now and curious to see the comparisons.

Great video by David, he had just made some changes to his Facebook page the other day.

It sounded like he had some that were not fully chambering as you could hear the manipulation of the slide prior to the shots of some.  I thing this is due to the lack of return pressure of the stock captured recoil system.

I am still researching recoil systems and spring options for my 3rd gen G-20.  I am not a fan of captured systems, nice for combat use with medium to lower powder ammo.  When it comes to premium ammo use, I want a non captive stronger than the factory 17lb spring...but that's just me!  ;D

I need to watch the video again. At one point I heard someone say "it's tumbling" after some funky readings. Was that after the Underwood 220's? At some point I should contact him to see if he wants some of the rounds I played with this year for his videos.

Yea that was with the Atomic Ammo...

I been running the G20 3rd Gen since I bought 3 yrs ago with the Wolff 22lb and Steel Guide rod. No hiccups what so ever with stock barrel. All kinds of ammo. Weaker stuff just gets the stock spring.

Yea I'm leaning that way because I have had great results with the Wolff system in the G-29.  I may get a couple of different spring rates just for the heck of it, like a 24lb for sever testing of higher impulse stuff. :o

IC, are you going to update the sheet with these?

The PBR V Supreme 165 load was nice. I was surprised at the Nugent load, which ran at Hornady 180 XTP velocities.

What was up with the Underwood 220? Was that from Kevin's newer batch? It's more or less what we have been asking for.

The Atomic Ammo crapped out. David said they were tumbling.

Shadow, I have the 22 pound captured RSA from Glockstore. It runs great in my 20SF with Underwood!

No update needed. David has his own spreadsheet he updates with the video tests.

All of those are old ammo's David purchased from me. Pretty sure the 220's he shot were the old 800-X load. I get different results within reason from David's due to 4.75" barrel and a non-stock heavy spring (doesn't matter in a Witness).

My Chronograph of the Atomic gave 1276 FPS and Raggedyman got 1251 FPS out of his Witness 4.5". The 8.6gr's of Long Shot support the data versus other Long Shot loadings.

The 220's of past were about 1200 FPS out of my Match back then from what I recall. Guess that's why we retest too!

As far as retests go, I would like to see how the newer 220 load chrono's, if Kevin is serious about adjusting them.

Edit: You are right Intercooler, David has already updated his sheet with Atomic tumblers specified and all:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjsXvXEryDJjdFhsRUcwSHRUcktCMmhOMTVFa25xa1E#gid=0

What do the blue numbers indicate in the manufacturer's claimed velocity column?

Eventually they will get tested again. With none in stock currently it may be a month or two.

Or just a couple of rounds.

I have just a few of the different Littlestone rounds I want to run in the Hunter this weekend while doing the new stuff.

Okay. If you want to let me know when he adjusts it I will buy a box or two.

When I see they are back in stock I am going to try them again. I did break down and buy some DT 200gr HC rds to test for myself. I also bought a few boxes of UW 200TMJ.
