Thinking about adding a light to my G20. The G29 I'll leave alone.
Do you have a favorite accessory light? And why did you choose what you did? Is the one that Glock sells worth owning?
I'm thinking I want maximum brightness for the application. Other than that, don't know. Thoughts on light options I should consider?
I have a Streamlight TLR-1s on my G17. Pretty bright and has a strobe function. It's probably one the the best lights for the money, it can be had for about $100 give or take and you can usually find them on a deal.
Probably a dumb question, but from a tactical standpoint what is the benefit of the strobe function? Or maybe I should ask if there is a tactical benefit to the strobe function?

It's a distraction, and an incapacitation, of sorts. A semi-fast strobe can overwhelm a person's optics, and cause at least a hesitation. Not unlike a taser, it overloads another sense, in many cases. The practice has been around since WWII, or so.

5 cell Kel-Lite and duct tape. Multi-function, too.

I'll pass on the duct tape. My Gen3 does have a perfectly useable accessory rail. Or am I misunderstanding what the duct tape is for?

The 5 Cell Kel-Lite was the precursor to what my generation knows as the Mag Lite. It took five D cell batteries, and to my knowledge was never made with accessory rail mounting in mind. It is an enormous flashlight, and duct taping one to your Glock would definitely tame the recoil of even the stoutest 10mm loads. ;D

Yep. That's it. Way before acc. rails, so duct tape is necessary. Maybe better than that silly Glock Rail or Picatinny stuff. Multi-function = recoil suppression, unless the Kel-Lite IS the recoil, in which case, the rolls reverse.
DM1906, I suspect we have dated ourselves ;D
Oops! Did I do thaaaat?
Okay then, but I believe I will go with newer technology Gorilla Tape, as they say "For The Toughest Jobs on Planet Earth", and I'm not sure sure the old standard Duct Tape could hang onto a 10mm. 9 and 45 maybe, but I have my doubts with the 10.
Never underestimate the power of duct tape. Or a Kel-Lite!
On a serious note.....
I'll have a few guys up on Sunday with headlights on a few Glocks. Some new and some old. As important as the light performance, is the mount and retention mechanism. One was a quick release, I forget the brand. Solid when installed, 2 fingers and a second to remove (no clumsy thumbscrews or rattles). I can grab some pics and a review, if you like.

If you don't train/practice with the strobe, it will have the same effect on the shooter though.
I have a tlr-1 on my g20. After each range trip I wipe the lense off. The light has been on the gun for atleast the past 400 rounds with out any problems with the light, and it's still very bright.

I really like the idea of a quick release setup. Any pics and further review would be great, along with a brand name to research further.

Makes sense, glad you brought it up.

No problem. I'll get the word out to bring 'em. We usually wind up around sundown, so not much use for them, except showing off new toys. We like toys....
Stuck a rail light on my G20 when it was being fired with stout DT loads. I can't remember if it was a streamlite TR1 or the Sig equivalent. After a few rounds it went sailing. Kind of dinged up the light a little. I was britty sure I had it on tight but I'm getting old so you never know.
Havent tried it since. Check it out before you assume it will stay there. Them 10's they do kick. ;D
Insight makes some nice LED/laser lights with a quick disconnect. No thumb screws. I like their switch setup better than Surefire as well.
I have the M6X LED/laser combo on my G20SF on my nightstand.

I'll definately look into those. Hadn't heard of them before. Thanks!

Todays operation was scrubbed. My kingpin started FTO yesterday, and his days off changed. We'll be back at it in a few days, though.

Awe geez, had me all ramped up when I saw you had posted, then I get here and no beans. :( Well, looking on the bright side, later is waaaaaaaay better than never! ;D

I used to have a TLR-1 but went with a Surefire X300 for my newest HD pistol... Surefire is a bit pricey but they are very reliable and their customer service is good... and the X300 is a bit brighter than the TLR-1 (170 lumens vs 80, I think)
Surefire is just now coming out with the X300 Ultra that does 500 lumens for about the same price as the regular X300.
I also carry a PowerTac E5 handheld flashlight that puts out a whopping 700 lumens... that sucker is a blinder! :-)
I'll definately look into them. Thanks! And yeah, 700 lumens, WOW! :o
I have one of the first Glock lights. I don't know if it has improved or not. However it is very small.
What I Don't like about it compared to my Streamlight, is the toggle switch is either on or off, whether you use your index/trigger finger or your support hand thumb.
With my Streamlight, the right side of the toggle is on/off. The left side is on as long as you hold it down. When you release, it springs back to "off". A much better tacticle light. Easier to do a quick "spot".
Even though I'm not ready to buy at this time, near as I can tell I've finished researching, and arrived at the following conclusions for myself:
1) The top choice I've decided for myself is - STREAMLIGHT TLR-2s
Main Features/Specs:
C4 LED 160 lumen light, strobe function, and 650-660 nm red laser
4.72 oz., Length = 3.26", Width = 1.47", Height = 1.83"
Power = Two 3 Volt CR123A Lithium Batteries
Tactical Runtime (till it gets down to 50 lumens) = 2.5 hours
Lens = high temperature, shock mounted, impact resistant Boro Float Glass
Operating Temperature = -40F to +120F
Mounts directly to Glock style rails and incorporates quick detach feature.
Batter door is tethered so you can't lose it.
Windage and Elevation screws are mounted in BRASS bushings for long life and accurate repeatability when dismounting/remounting.

2) Then I'm keen on the STREAMLIGHT TLR-1s HP, specifically geared toward woods defense and general woods use.
HP stands for high-powered. The TLR-1 HP series produce a long-range targeting beam that reaches 400+ meters!
Pics of TLR-1s HP:

All in all, they sure are spendy little buggers. Hope you get what you pay for with them!
Streamlight. Model depends on what you want. My uncle is a distributor for Streamlight and I have/used just about all of them. They all work great. Each one has its own features you may or may not want....
Streamlight TLR -1S. used them for years. Work great
REDLINE,
I see this is an old thread, but did you purchase the Streamlight TLR-2s? How do you like it? Does it stay mounted securely under recoil?
