Anyone have any experience with the Para Ordnance Elite Hunter? I am looking at this or the EAA Witness Hunter. I like the feel of the 1911 style grip. Just looking for advice. All advice is appreciated.
Do you want many rounds or a few?
I've got one and love it. Yeah, it only has 9 rounds available but it's not designed as a daily carry gun/personal defense gun , it's built to shoot and hunt. I've fired over 1400 rounds of Underwood with only one failure to feed and that was my fault (limp wristed it after a long day). The only thing I've done to it is placed loctite on the rear sight screws. The barrel is made by Storm Lake, the mags are Checkmate. It is accurate and 2" groups are the norm at 25 yards if you do your part. And, if you purchase before the end of the month you'll get 2 free mags, a range bag, cleaning kit and gun rug. I'm still waiting on mine.
I'm also looking at the hunter elite too. I'm trying to sell a few out of the safe to finance it. The birthday is also coming up and I deserve it.
Para has stepped up on quality. The LS Hunter is a sweet piece. They still have issues with the doublestack guns which they are working on but the singlestack Hunter has been flawless for me. My suggestion is to buy it, capacity be damned. If you don't like it I'll buy it from you....
I have a Para Elite hunter on layaway. I managed to track on down on Gallery of Guns of all places. I should hopefully have it paid off in about a month. As an added bonus, Para is offering a $100 mail in rebate. That's a lot of nice gun for the money. The only thing I may change is the grips. I'll have to shoot it first and see how they feel. Oh, how I wish I had it now.
I got my Para hunter out of layaway jail. I'm now an official member of the 10mm club. I was a little disappointed to find a few very small blemishes and nicks that i didn't notice until i got it home. A machining mark on the frame and a nick on the outside of the end of the barrel. Very minor though, so i didn't make a stink about them. I made the rookie mistake of launching the spring and plug my first time taking it apart. They spring and plug shot out so hard it dented my ceiling. It took me an hour to find the plug. At the range, I ran a box each of American Eagle 180's and PPU 180's through it. I found the recoil to be not quite mild, but not real heavy. Actually gratifying. I didn't really focus much on accuracy, as it still needs some breaking in. But, I adjusted the sights enough to blow up some soda cans and clay pigeons at 15 yards. Overall, I'm happy with the Hunter. I think this pistol can and wants to preform. Now, it's time to start working on handloads. Did I mention, it flings brass about 15 to 20 feet? That makes collecting brass annoying. My overall impression... Badass.

I take that this was a factory offering and not a conversion.
The EGW extractor is very strong but aids in reliability. My brass goes at least 25' but I've had no ftf's after 4,000 rounds, mostly Underwood. I did get another recoil spring (free from factory) but I haven't had to install it yet. I really like the gun. Mine had no blemishes when new, it's got a few now but hell, It adds character. I think I'll steal some of mama's beers and blow them up tomorrow with the Hunter but then again, I'd hate to see them go to waste.....
What is the price on the Hunter?

I took the hunter out yesterday and put about 75 more rounds through it. Now, I need to get some more powerful loads to try. I was going to get some Underwood seeing how it's the most affordable of the full power options. I'm going to make some handloads this week, too. I just need to find some bullets. 40/10mm is in short supply in my area. My local shop has Nosler 150 gr. hp in stock so I guess I'll give those a try. And I'm going to order some 180gr, either Berry's or Rainiers plated bullets. Hopefully, by next week I can give an update on the Hunter with hotter loads and some handloads.
