Was reading an article about car jackings, and a statement by the police chief pissed me off. It's like he wants people to just be victims.

This kind of mentality makes me sick. They want us to be victims. If someone wants your car, give it to them. If they are breaking into your house in the middle of the night, call the cops and wait. If someone tries to take your wallet, hand it over.
This incident happened 40 minutes from where I live. My parents live within 10 minutes of that mall, and my mother and my wife shop there occasionally.
This is New Jersey, so the police chief's attitude doesn't surprise me.
That statement by the police chief must have made all the NJ criminals happy. If the perp is obviously holding a firearm, then yeah it is probably better to concede but not if some guy walks up to you and says give me your money, hell no. ready your stance and get your hand on the CCW and tell him he best be moving along.
I have always thought that open carry might be a good deterrent to criminals since they know their potential victim will likely defend themselves with lethal force. The wild west back in day seems more peaceful than some urban areas today.
Studies have shown that the perps choose targets that give off the signs that they are victims.
You don't need to have a gun openly carried to broadcast you aren't a victim. Head up, scan your environment. Make eye contact with anyone that is going to pass within 15' of you. Simple things like that will keep 95% of them at bay.
Some people choose to be sheep, and others choose to be sheep dogs. You just have to decide which one you are. ::)
Alot of times esp back in the 90's the perp ended up either shooting the victim or beating after the victim gave up the goods. Big city metro chiefs comments not surprising.
Seems Par-for-the-Course. After all, it's only he and his that are qualified to "protect". All others are Vigilantes and should be put down and have their firearms taken away.

A few yrs ago had somthing similar happen... wife and I leaving a resturant at 10pm, walking to/in a public parking lot. Noticed 4 guys 50 yards behind following... got wife over to weak side. I had looked at them and they said something (unknown) back... As we approched the car I heard footsteps louder as they were now jogging closer, wife and I with back to car now and I just looked back standing my ground, they stopped runing but kept walking towards us.. I put my hand back under jacket, in ready position... at 25 feet they stopped dead, looked and then jogged off sharply to the side away from us.
Thought it was going south bad, but I guess they got the idea it wasn't easy enough.
Close enough for me tho!

But the whole story is to stay aware of your surroundings and trust the hair on the back of yr neck.... if things don't feel right stop and think!
