Colorado Springs arrested James Sorensen in July 2012 for openly carrying a gun, even though it was legal.
Sorenson was openly carrying in a city park, three officers involved were simply unaware it's legal to open carry in city parks. He was arrested and charged. He later sued the City of Colorado Springs and won 23K.
I like this quote.
In previous interviews with local news stations, Sorensen said, "They had the gall to say, 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse,' and yet they are the ones that are ignorant of the law."

Fixed the link for ya.
It bothers me that the only coverage this has gotten is in ultra-libertarian news outlets.
If this mans 1st, 4th or 5th amendment rights had been trampled in this way, it would have been big news locally and probably resulted in more national coverage from main stream outlets.
And that is the only reason I some validity to many of the tactics of the open-carry movement. Yeah, some of them could be more diplomatic, but they are creating awareness.
Similar situation occurred in Philadelphia few years ago. I think he settled for around 25K, not totally sure. State Law trumps Municipal. Following year legal updates had the training in it for all Penna officers.
