Just curious what route everyone likes. Most home owner's only covers a certain amount unless you make a schedule attachment. Does a better option exist out there to cover for theft, fire, etc...?
I didn't realize you have to add extra coverage.
NRA membership gives a a small amount of coverage $2500 . As a memeber, they offer a policy thru a insurer that does offer scheduled and non-scheduled coverage specific to firearms and gear. You can read more here.

It doesn't cover Government theft, I mean confiscation!
A attach the schedule. Not only does this insure I am covered, but it insures I have a list of all my firearm serial numbers, make, model. When I buy a new one, I email my agent.
The insurance thru the NRA does not require serial numbers for coverage! 8)
My agent said you have to have receipts for anything covered. My Hunter I purchased from a private person with no physical receipt. I was told an appraisal would be needed to cover it.
I have bills of sale for all of mine but the NRA insurance doesn't ask for that info. They may ask for that data should you have a claim!
I also make a picture files and typed descriptions and values of all the data pertaining to each gun in my own personal files. I make backup copies to CD or other media as well.
I think IC is saying they would require a receipt to cover a claim, probably the same as the NRA. I would be really surprised if they will replace a gun that you can't prove you owned in some way.
The benefit of sending the make, model and SN is it forces me to make a record, hosted on a remote server, so I could complete a police report.
A friend of mine had his guns stolen about 10 years ago. Insurance paid for new ones, then about half were recovered later. The insurance company was notified, since by the policy the recovered guns belonged to them. They just gave them to the homeowner since they didn't wanna deal with the FFL red tape. So now he has two Redhawks, two Springfield Loaded 1911's, two M1A's.
