Title: Underwood .357 Magnum line including new 180gr Lead FNGC
Post by: Intercooler on November 12 2013 06:50:37 PM MST
The old 158's didn't get up to speed and are now rated 1475 FPS. Can't wait to see that one! The 125's are Sierra HP's which is interesting for a gel test but the velocity was always good on these. Kevin just added tonight a new 180gr Lead FNGC rated at 1400 FPS, which is pretty stout in comparison.

They might not make it here until next Monday  :( On a side note Kevin announced he was adding more Lead loads to the mix. Hope to see some .44's up soon!

Yes! 'Bout time!! Gotta love a full house .357.  Is he planning any cast .44 special's or just mag's?

I spoke to Kevin today and he has a 255gr Keith and 305gr planned in .44 Magnum due for release next week. It slipped my mind to ask him about .44 Special  :-[ Any certain loading you are looking for? I got cut short today but plan another call tomorrow.

Nice selection of 357 stuff!  8)  Velocities are with in a reasonable range for the bullet weights.  ;)

Very nice and typical of true 357 loadings!  That 180gr's pretty good velocity for the weight.  8)

When you get these we need to look at the 125's. Kevin's older load seems to have done better. Just want to make sure the powder types are correct. His 158's and now 180's are much improved!

sorry IC, I had overlooked your post. It would be nice to have the Skeeter load available (250 grn Keith type at 950 fps). The original loading was 7.5 of Unique but other powders available now may work just as well, if not better. I think Buffalo Bore is the only company offering anything close.

I like the 158gr .357 Mag for my steel J-frame. Don't have Underwood's version yet, but the Buffalo Bore version chrono's in the mid 1200's from my 2.125" barrel.

That has similar ballistics to a warm 155gr .40 S&W. That should perform well in a self-defense situation.
