Title: Wetpack test on the Nosler 45 cal 185gr HP and 230gr HP
Post by: 475/480 on October 28 2013 02:45:27 PM MDT
I shot some of the Nosler 45 cal HP bullets into wetpack this weekend.
I like the cavity a LOT better on the Nosler 185gr HP over the Hornady 185gr XTP (to shallow).
Velocities run 1180 fps for the 185gr HP and 1000 fps for the 230gr HP, YES these are +P loads. These were shot in a Ruger Commander 4.25" bll, Installed a 20lb spring and recoil buffer .
Top pic : Nosler 230 gr HP, expansion and weight retention was very good.
229.8gr -Diameter 761 x. 763" ,penetration 8.5"
230.3gr - Diameter .528 x .531". penetration 8.0"
Bottom pic:
183.0gr Diameter .780 x .819" very good expansion, penetration 7.0"
185.1gr Diameter .745 x .762"   "     "

Wow, you had them run in the upper ranges, I'd be interested in the load data used to push them.
Would they be acceptable for standard 45ACP in this configuration?

Thanks again for your contributions!  8)
