How many of you know someone or have met someone who has never heard of the 10mm? I know of at least two. Well, they know about 10mm now after I educated them.
First, it was my BIL. He is mostly into rifles and earlier this year bought his first hand gun, a S&W SD9VE. So, we took it out to the farm to shoot a few rounds. I brought along my 1006. He asked what it was and I told him "It's a Smith and Wesson 10mm. He looked a little surprised and said he'd never heard of that caliber. So I went through the whole ".40 cal S&W was born from 10mm, FBI tested 10mm but found it was etc. etc., so they ended up etc etc. Now he knows. He still didn't want to shoot it tho, lol.
Next it was the UPS guy. Yeah, he is into guns and he knew it was ammo in the box. He was mostly curious about where I was finding ammo during the shortage. He thought it was 22lr because it was so heavy. When I told him it was 10mm ammo, he was a bit incredulous. Said he'd never heard of that. Mostly he just wanted to talk about his Judge after that.
Anyway, I was just curious if anyone here has had a similar experience.
I've seen that, at least a dozen times. 10mm isn't the only outcast cartridge unknown by the masses. Incidentally, one was my UPS driver, as well. Nice guy, but wasn't a shooter. He ended up buying a Rock River AR/.223 (for "home defense", against my recommendation), and has never fired it, and it's been a few years. Most others are the younger crowd (20's and 30's), but they "know all about those 9's and 45's". Hollywood shooters, I think. Unless they really paid attention to some Miami Vice episodes or read the cop rags, they've never had a reason to know what was a 10mm Auto.
I use to run across a few from time to time over the years, that didn't hear of it or never seen the 10mm.
Some are perplexed, while I start changing out the barrels on my 10mm to fire 40S&W, 357Sig and 9x25Dillon which most have never heard of or seen.
I love the ones that argue; "You mean 9mm, Right ? ! ?"
"NO, like I said, 10mm ! ! !"
Then you try to explain the differences
"It's kinda like this, the 10mm is to the .40S&W, like the .357 Mag is to the .38 Special"
It's interesting how non "Gun Guys" want to argue Guns
All the time.
First I get the "your and idiot and meant 9mm looks/talkin' to". Then I get the "man, your a real gun nut" stare.
Most, or many, 'gun guys' haven't heard of 10mm or they don't know what it is. It's just not well known. And many of the gun guys that have heard of it say "10mm's overrated", "Only worth shooting if you reload", or "Too expensive to shoot".
The one I really love is;
"10mm ? No way....Why would anyone bother to make a new Bullet just one millimeter bigger ?....That's just dumb !"
Heard a new one over the weekend, "10mmAuto?? Pssht, it's basically a 9mm........"
I just sort of laughed.

"10mm's overrated"
If anything it's exactly the opposite! The whole current situation surrounding firearms/ammo is breeding a new know-it-all group of tough guys haha overrated, that's rich. Sounds like a substitution for the real response which should be "I don't know anything about 10mm so i'll dismiss it as overrated and then boast about the versatility of 9mm or .40sw".
i always here,whats a 10mm.then i say ,let me show ya
