Title: Glock 20 10mm $440? Would you get it?
Post by: Smee78 on July 03 2012 02:24:14 PM MDT
Hey everyone,

I was out an about today and found a used Glock 20 Gen 3 10mm for $440, Would you pick it up at this price? I'm no stranger to 10mm (S&W 1076,1006) or to Glocks (19,23,26) but I'm not up on the prices of this model. A quick glance on Gunbroker showed that most of them went used for $500+ and I know that the new gen 4 Glocks are out but I wanted to get your opinion.

Thanks for your imput,

If it includes mags and isn't beat up, I would in a heartbeat.  You'll be able to recover that amount if/when you decide to part with it (for another 10mm, of course).  Without mags, it puts the price about even with average.  If more than 2 mags, the value goes up.

Did you get a chance to take it apart to see how much wear? Also, is it the older Gen 3 with the black finish? I prefer that one to the greyish new finish.

If it has minimal wear (outside too) and looks to be well kept, comes with both mags, I would go for it. I would barter a bit just for good measure. If it's good condition that would be a lot of gun for, say $440 out the door.

When I was at the shop I did not ask if the box and extra mag/stuff came with it but I did get to take it apart and the only thing I saw wrong (besides being dirty) with it is a scratch on the frame at the bottom of the grip about an inch long (kind of like it was in a holster and the person rubbed up against something, not very deep), I also believe it has night sights but I forgot to check it they were glowing or not, I was kind of in a hurry. There was no glock plug or any other add on's on the gun. I believe it has a black finish, I cant recall anything else bad about the gun. I may have to go back and check it out further.

Well imho, with what you were saying... I would go back before someone else gets it. Complain about the scratch for bargaining room then stipple the grip when you get it home.  :D After giving it another look over, of course.

Smee78, as good as that price is on the G-20, I would still consider going the newer G-20 gen 4 is you could swing the extra coins.  The reason I say that is first the gun is new, warranty, has new features like recoil system, changeable grip panels.

Just my thoughts...but the original owner may have had issues...so just beware!  :-\

Shadow that is a good point, I will have to look at what the new gen 4 are selling for and think about it a little more.

If its a smaller shop, I would ask the guy at the counter why the other person brought it in.  Ive traded guns before at retialers and they always ask, why I am trading it and ask about any problems.  Im not afraid to tell them why I dont like it or theres something else I just got to have and feel that whatever gun Im trading is the one I am willing to part with.  And I do quite a bit of buying and trading.  If the guy doent know why the person got rid of it, I would also ask about a return policy.  The retailer I deal with mostly has a 30 day "Customer Satisfaction" garuntee on the used guns and I have used this before.  They dont test them before they sell them and they take the customers word that it works.  I have found broken guns before and they have sent them to the factory or their gunsmith for repair.

The most common resaon I hear why somebody brought something in is ammo cost.  But for $440 I would jump on it.

I just missed one in the paper here locally yesterday.  Gen 3, original owner, three 15 rd mags.  Owner claimed to have only put 30 rounds through it, and that he had the remaining 20 of the first and only box of ammo.

Price:   $400

I was about 15 minutes too late with my text.

There is a Gen 1 G20 at a local shop for $399, but I think I will hold out for a Gen 4 at GSSF pricing.

Wasn't the G17 the only Gen1 model made?

I would get it for sure. I had a hard time finding my 20SF w/ 10rd mags and would ship to California.

I would not hesitate on a 3rd Gen for that price. Somewhat looking for another myself, and any, 3rd Gen under $500 is a good deal, AFAIC! I have yet to see a G20 wore out, and for a 20-25% savings, it's a good deal.

Allow me to rephrase.  An original G20.

I'm having a hard time deciding what to do, this gun is still for sale and I can get it for $440,,,,,,but my favorite LGS has a used one that looks brand new and was produced about a year or two ago, it has the newer style hinge box and all the stuff and a extra mag with regular sights. They are asking $500 no wiggle room on this price. What do yall think? I'm leaning towards the one at my LGS, it looks better and I know they will back me if there is a problem.

It sounds like you answered your own question.  Peace of mind alone, is worth $60.  Mags are ~$30-40.  The box.... worth whatever you think it is.  Newer?  Less wear?  Maybe worth something, too.  If you think on it too long, one, or both of your options may walk out the door in someone else's hand.

For only a $60 difference, I would buy the newer one for $500 first.

Then, I would go back and buy the second one for $440...

But, if you were a Glock Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF) member, you could buy a brand new G20 for $491 + tax.

;D

Been there... done that (lay-a-way) before.

It tends to make me appreciate the gun a little bit more.

Around here, $440 is about average. STD frame used go for $400 and larger or less common $450.

I was lucky and grabbed up my G20 for 400 with two mags, adj sites and all orig stuff and tupperware style box.

Good luck with it!
