Not just 10mm's...
The 4th is coming up and cannons tend to be very handy. :D
Below is a .69 cal Traditions black powder cannon with my old G20. Nice conversation piece but also functional, just have to remember to give your neighbors a heads-up.

Whoa. I think I need a CANNON.
In that .690 caliber, what are we talkin for ball weight and velocity?
Don't know velocity but the balls are 400+grns. They do a bit of damage ;D
Nice cannon, the one I have "Canon" I take pictures with...although I have wanted to build a tennis ball cannon but never did yet! :'(
Does it operate off standard black powder? If so, how much per launch?

Times not up, you should get on that project!

Blackpowder or triple 7, bout 85grns (bit less with trip 7). That's with projectile, you can double that if you just want to make noise. Well, noise and some fire...
Are fuses any big deal? How much does that thing move after firing?
Nah, fuses are no big. Just gotta order the right one, instruction spell that out. If you are firing a ball you either have to have it strapped down or have room for it to roll... which is probably 10' on smooth ground!
I'm wondering about trajectory. Thoughts on it taking out a deer at 20 yards?
Talking ballistics, yea, shot placement... not so much. Then there is the fuse issue...
How long does it take a "standard" fuse to burn down? Is it like an average firecracker fuse?
Similar to a firecracker "green" fuse, think they have ratings for burn time per inch. Been a while since I last checked. Actually, it's been a while since I fired the little beast!
I can see having a bit too much fun with that at the cabin in the far north woods. What's a cannon like yours go for new?
I can see that being wicked fun. Not this time of year in my area...Too much dry tinder.

They're defenitely a blast. I'm guessing fireworks is a no go in your area too?
Yeah, my dad's building this one. It'll be done tomorrow (pic is from a couple months ago).
I actually just saw the nearly completed cannon today, and it blew me away. My dad really put a lot of work into it, and it's going to be awesome.
1-3/4" bore, 26" length barrel, ammo is steel ball weighing about 1 pound, charge weight is unsure right now, but we have to build up a load tomorrow.

Wow! Purdy. That pegs the cool meter. Maybe get up to full 10mm power with that one!
Turo, that is bad @-- ! You gotta get pics of the finished product.

Awesome piece...if the bore were 2.5" it would be an excellent tennis ball shooter!
Turo, that is a beautiful piece!
Too bad I'm in NJ, land of the commie gun rules. I can't buy an M1 Carbine legally, let alone a cannon.

Cannons fall under diferent rules, you should check it out in your area. They are considered replicas in my area.

But, it's a 1-3/4" bore, it's a perfect size for golf balls :D.
Speaking of which, me and my dad got to do a final assembly today and do a blank test fire, here's a picture of the final build and I'll update with the video of a test fire once it's uploaded to YouTube.

WOW! That came together very nice... Great job! 8)

It's taken him almost 6 months to get it this far, staying late after work and going in on weekends. We just drilled the flash hole today and test fired it a couple times before this video. I have to say, it scared the crap out of me when it fired this time. Also, I forgot to wear ear plugs for this one, ears are still ringing a little.
It took some doing, but I finally got the video uploaded to YouTube. This was about the 3rd test fire, using progressively larger charges. This was 1 ounce of fffg pyrodex and about 5-6 inches of packed paper wadding. Watch your speakers, the video is a little loud:
"SAFETY NOTE" Here is a word to the wise, never stand directly in front of the cannon barrel bore...any spark or even static and even hammering too much could set the charge off. I am quite sure no one wants a stick or blast to their body! :o
On an Anvil Shoot a fellow was seriously hurt when his charge blew up before it was even set! ???

I'm pretty sure it's a no no. NJ does not recognize C&R or replicas. BB guns are considered firearms here and you need a permit to buy. Same goes for black powder kit guns and such that can be bought off the shelf in our neighboring states. On top of that, a big majority of our towns have no discharge ordinances so unless you go to a range, you can't even shoot on your own property!

Yowch! Black powder muzzle loaders aren't even considered firearms here in CA, and I thought our gun laws sucked. I feel for ya man.
Dang, brotha, that's terrible. I hate it for people in your situation.
Jersey is rough. We have the NJ Second Amendment Society that's working hard to get rid of the feel good BS laws we have to protect the criminals. Hopefully soon things will get easier for us!
Good luck to you with those gun laws!

Always love a big boom.
I have one, more of a mortar really, that shoots soda cans and 20 oz. pop bottles, spray paint cans, etc. The pop bottles can be shot a lot further (filled with water) because they are stronger than the cans, which tend to shred apart. Soda cans full of gasoline are fun though, with a heavy enough charge to shred them in the barrel so the gas ignites... You don't want to stand close to that.

I want to see that too!
There was talk about making a mortar at one point between me and my dad, but I think that one will have to wait a bit.

Chicken!!!...bauk bauk bauk.................JUST KIDDING :D
Fun Stuff though! Well, assuming acceptable understandings and safety measures are met. 8)
Yep, need some vids of the mortar. 8)
