Title: Hypothetical defense situation
Post by: Buckeye 50 on September 23 2013 07:10:28 PM MDT
Just for fun, you see guy with some kind of weapon charging your front door.  You just know he is coming through, the easy or hard way.  There is no other choice but on the table in front of you are two guns:

Springfield XDm 5.25" 45acp
Sig Sauer 229 Enhanced elite in 357sig

Whatever your favorite defense load is in each gun and you have 2-3 seconds and can pick up just one or the other.  Which do you choose?

My next purchase is between these two, which is why I ask.  I know it is apples to oranges, just want to see what you think and would choose.

Oh yeah, my Glock 20 FS is in another room I can't get to (my obvious first choice)

Thanks,

P

I wouldn't give ground to get the 10mm, I'd grab the .45 and let him feel the love.  :-*

I agree the 45's great defensive weapon and it would be my choice! 8)

Don't sell that 357Sig short either, it would splatter a melon! if you get my drift!  :-\

A couple a yrs ago a co worker on a traffic stop late at night used at the time the 357 Sig 229.Today the BG walks around with a bag to take care of his business. Intestines like pudding. Dropped like a bag O hammers.

I would take the .45.

But not because it is a .45.  Because a polymer gun with a 5.25" barrel is going to be way more shootable than the metal gun with a 3.8" barrel.

Now, if I was picking between those two for a gun to go in a holster all day, every day, I might lean towards the sig.

I would grab the 229... with the hope that the recoil from that first .357sig round would throw me into the other room where the G20 was ;-)

What sqlbullet said!

But sOnspark's response has the most humour of anything I've read today. Reminds me of a scene from Men in Black.

I would pick the XDM for the trigger.....chambered in .357 Sig.  :P

For me I like the 357 sig.  great round.  So I would pick the 229.

I am in love with the 229 Elite Dark myself and in 357 sig ofcourse.  Some day I will own one.  But a glock 32 in 357 sig brings a smile to my face.

The 357 sig is my second favorite round next to the 10mm.  I love these 2 rounds.

Just my .02 worth

Brian

Easy for me to choose. I have both a SA 1911A1 GI .45, and a SIG P229 with both a 357 SIG and 40 cal S&W barrel. This is what I can do with the SIG. Never been able to equal it with a .45.

I'm not personally fond of DA/SA action types or Sigs in general so it would be the XD. My wife has one and I'm familiar with the trigger and handling. The caliber is irrelevant. Handguns in service pistol cartridges loaded with modern, quality JHPs perform very similarly.

Of course, the proper answer is whatever weapon with which YOU are most proficient. In my case, that would be the 11.5" AR hanging on the wall in my bedroom. Rifles > shotguns > pistols.
