Title: Starbucks...

Go ahead and take those "I love guns and coffee" stickers off your car...

Starbucks says guns unwelcome, though not banned

Starbucks says guns are no longer welcome in its cafes, though it is stopping short of an outright ban on firearms.

The fine line that the retailer is walking to address the concerns of both gun rights and gun control advocates reflects how heated the issue has become, particularly in light of recent mass shootings.

Most states allow people to openly carry licensed guns in some way and many companies do not have laws banning firearms in their stores. But Starbucks has become a target for gun control advocates, in part because of its liberal-leaning corporate image. In turn, gun rights advocates have been galvanized by the company's decision to defer to local laws.

In an interview, CEO Howard Schultz said the decision to ask customers to stop bringing guns into stores came as a result of the growing frequency of "Starbucks Appreciation Days," in which gun rights advocates turned up at Starbucks cafes with firearms.

Schultz said the events mischaracterized the company's stance on the issue and the demonstrations "have made our customers uncomfortable."

I drink Starbucks a lot. They won't get another penny of my business. Period.

Make sure to spread the word to all of the gun owners you know.

I had just read over the StarBucks info on FaceBook...one of the things about concealed carry is not advertising you are. ???

I can't help but think that overt flaunting of _open_ carry contributes to this kind of reaction...

This.

I don't drink coffee...Mormon and all (you gotta look close for the second 'm', I know).  I still make it a point to visit a starbuck, order a hot chocolate, and politely and privately thank the staff for their corporate guns stance.  I never intimate to them I am actually carrying a gun.  They might (correctly) assume I am.  It is always well concealed.

Certainly no one else in the store can tell, unless they know me.

I have to think this is the result of lack of consideration of the realities of the society we live and, and what is polite.

From CEO Schultz.

QuoteStarbucks says guns are no longer welcome in its cafes,

QuoteSchultz hopes people will honor the request not to bring in guns but says the company will nevertheless serve those who do.

Quote"We will not ask you to leave,"

Clear as Mud Ah?

Sounds like he is telling the "Appreciation Day" folks to Knock it off and move on. As in, if you want to carry your firearm, go ahead, do it quietly and stop using my front porch for a soap box.

Agreed, and plus you really cannot scare people into understanding...

Way back in the day, when open carry was the norm, everyone understood the role firearms played in every day survival. As a society we have drifted away from that and it is going to take education on a lot of levels to get back to where people as a whole truly understand again.

I've suspected this would happen for some time now. No one to blame but the adam henry "pro" activists. Like SQL, support doesn't/didn't have to be "in your face". They did nothing but lower themselves to the level of our opposition.

It does suck....longtime Starbuck drinker here...as a matter of fact when I was in the Coast Guard in Seattle, me and the shipmates used to go to Pike St Market, and go to Starbucks #1 all the time. I know they have the right to do it, but it doesn't make it any better for us law-abiders that carry. I guess we can boycott...I can always go to Seattle's Best or buy a Peet's coffee.... :(

Peet's is anti-gun, they have signs on their windows that say no firearms allowed. And most people don't know this, but Seattle's Best is owned by Starbucks and roasted in the same roasting plant in Kent, WA. The Kirkland brand coffee sold at Costco is also Starbucks.
