Title: 200gr Gold Dots loaded and ready
Post by: Intercooler on September 10 2013 03:59:29 PM MDT
Try some tomorrow to see where they are at. They have the XTP load so I am expecting 1250 FPS or so.

Nice. Know what charge he used? 800X, right?

I need to phone Kevin and see if I can get the load on these. Things possibly change with the bullet or is this scaled back?

200gr Gold Dot with XTP load Limited Pro 4.75" 1177, 1167, 1162, 1155, 1159, 1150. Average = 1161.66 FPS/ 599 LBS. I'm not complaining because they are pleasant to shoot and right on the edge of what I consider real 10mm at 600lbs. It may actually be perfect for this bullet as I don't know how they would do in the 1250 FPS range.

Well This is what I think he loaded for you based on those numbers...Limited Pro 4.75" 1177, 1167, 1162, 1155, 1159, 1150. Average = 1161.66 FPS/ 599 LBS

If it is LongShot..8.8 grains of LongShot is my best guesstimate.  ???
If it is IMR 800X..9.0 grains of IMR 800X is my best guesstimate.  ???

I'm sending two down with the next batch to see.

The other stuff plus (2) 9x25 Dillon Underwood and (2) Buffalo Bore 155 Barnes.

Good luck I hope everything works out I have high expectations, I can see some tool marks left that worries me a little?

Yea the pulling tool marks are deep on them, I can see where it may cause a petal to start to shear during expansion.
This is why the jello shots will show if this will present an issue or not... ???

I got about 1,140 fps from XTPs with 8.3 gr of 800X
Title: Re: 200gr Gold Dots loaded and ready

According to my Hornady book, 8.1 gr is the max load of 800X for a 200 gr XTP but it also says that charge is supposed to be only 1,050 fps and it got me to about 1,130 fps. I'm reluctant to work up much further. Can someone verify Kevin's recipe for 200 gr XTP? I think Shadow posted a pulldown and I think Intercooler verified it with Kevin but I can't find it. Knowing the recipe and velocities for both the 200 gr XTP and Gold Dot would make me more confident about pushing further past the book limit.

On the positive side, going through my log book, I found some 800X loads that ought to do the trick nicely.

7.5 gr
______
1,037
1,049
1,039
1,043
1,071

7.7 gr
______
1,067
1,067
1,067 (no kidding)
1,049
1,047

I think I'll go with 7.6 gr to be on the safe side to keep it subsonic, just in case the Gold Dot pushes a little faster than the XTP.

Well I have never pulled the Underwood 200gr Hornady XTP,  However I have loaded to the 9.4 grain level of each Imr800X and LongShot.

Redline did pull some...

Thank you. That seems like an awful lot above the book. I trust you get no pressure signs. Ever shoot them in a stock Glock or 1911 barrel?

I loaded some 200 gr. XTP w/ 9.2 gr. 800x @ 1.255" COAL out of my stock G20 barrel.  No smileys but the case was very expanded.  Velocity was right around 1200 FPS.

Here are my hottest chronographed 200 gr. GDHP loads so far (out of 4.6" G20 bbl):
9.0 gr.    800x - 1.255" - 1150 FPS
12.5 gr. AA#9 - 1.255" - 1150 FPS
8.6 gr.    LS     - 1.255" - 1100 FPS

Kevin said today these are 800-X about 8.8gr's for the numbers I got.

Just to reiterate what was loaded and tested recently based on the 200 grain loadings
Most of what I loaded and shot were from the S&W1006 and the Glock 29.
Speer 200gr Gold Dot over LongShot  9.4 grains Remington 2 ½ primers COAL 1.250" Jag Brass
Tested 8/16/2013 in the S&W1006 1265 fps / 710 ft lbs primer moderately flattened, raised dimple wiped, case stayed in chamber pulled off the extractor...Expansion 0.4290"  Based on this info and what results Intercooler got below. I would load these no more than 9.2 grains of Long Shot but with CCI350 LP.

Tested by Intercooler LongShot  9.4 grains Remington 2 ½ primers COAL 1.250" Jag Brass
Limited Pro 4.75" 200gr Gold Dot 9.4gr's LongShot 1285, 1299, 1298, 1289, 1274. Average = 1289 FPS/ 738 LBS. Stout and accurate!

Tested by Intercooler IMR800X 9.4 grains Remington 2 ½ primers COAL 1.250" Jag and Starline brass
Limited Pro 4.75" 200gr Gold Dot 9.4gr's 800-X 1208, 1216, 1265, 1230, 1237. Average = 1231.2 FPS/ 673 LBS. Another nice one!

Added 12/31/11
I was able to test again today with the 800X 9.4 grains under the 200 Grain XTP, seated to 1.255", 350 CCI LP,
As shot from my S&W 1006 5" barrel, 1254 fps
Primer moderately flattened, casing was 0.4280"
Bullet traveled thru 4 gallon jugs of water and was 2" in the dirt berm
Bullet was expanded to 0.6550" and flattened down to 0.4830" in length
Retained weight was 182.8 grains

Added 1/2/12
As shot from my Glock 29 3.78" barrel, 1284 fps
Primer moderately flattened, casing was 0.4340"
Bullet traveled thru 4 gallon jugs of water and was 2" in the dirt berm
Bullet was expanded to 0.6730" / 0.5935" and flattened down to 0.4915" in length
Retained weight was 190.0 grains

Nice. Thank you. I had enough 200 gr Gold Dots to make a ladder from 8.0-9.0 gr 800-X plus a 7.6 gr load that should be subsonic. I will shoot the subsonic one into gelatin and if I see no pressure signs on the way up, I'll shoot the 9.0 gr load into gelatin as well.

I also loaded up some 156 gr Lyman Devastators over 9.5 gr of 800-X, which ought to be a middle of the road load.
