Title: Hornandy Flex Lock 175 10mm
Post by: pacapcop on September 05 2013 12:57:49 PM MDT
Would this be a new round from Hornady in 10mm? Seen it on gunbot.net being sold by Cabelas.

I'm on the phone with Cabelas right now. Gentleman at Cabelas is very helpful & trying to find if this is a special production run for them or if their webiste is mismarked. I can't find anything on Hornady's website.

The gentlemen from Cabelas could not determine for certain what it is. He is sending an inquiry to Hornady & will call me back. Hope they are making it in 10 now.

Nice. I am guessing ~1150 fps from Hornady. I hope it's better though.

So am I correct that this is the same Critical Duty bullet as the 165?

From the Cabelas site it looks like a 175. Hornady loads a .40 S&W 175 grain Flexlock:

http://www.hornady.com/store/40-S-and-W-175-gr-FlexLock-Critical-DUTY/

So perhaps they are loading the same bullet in 10mm now? It would be interesting, and I would think a 175 grain bullet at 1150 would be better than a 165 grain bullet at 1150. Also, there is a difference between Hornady's Critical Duty ammo as compared to their Critical Defense ammo.

Edit: Misunderstood your question....from what I have read, the Critical Duty ammo has a harder bullet for penetration through barriers, and is designed for law enforcement. The Critical Defense ammo is designed for personal protection, and is supposed to open up faster with less penetration.

I just ordered a box as well.

No Cabelas money though.  :(

The gentlemen from Cabelas just called me back, I believe his name was Gary. Excellent service from them. He informed me that this is in fact 10mm Critical Duty loaded exclusively for Cabelas. I had failed to ask him if he could find out advertised velocity when I called him yesterday & Hornady did not inform him of that. I'm guessing it is loaded similar to their 180gr XTP & he guessed the same. I ordered 10 boxes.

Awesome.

Hopefully IC will be able to get them over a chrono this weekend.

I had a little Cabelas money so I ordered a few boxes. I am going to break 20 rounds down and reload them to 1300-1400 fps and see how they do in wetpack.

Maybe this info wasn't there originally...I clicked the "Product Research" tab and was taken to a page with this information:

Range           Muzzle     50yds      100yds
Velocity(fps)   1050       1052        981

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Ammunition/Handgun-Ammunition%7C/pc/104792580/c/104691780/sc/104372280/Hornady174-Critical-Duty-Handgun-Ammunition/1315051.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshooting-ammunition-handgun-ammunition%2F_%2FN-1100189%2F&rid=11&WT.tsrc=AFF&WT.mc_id=cj3946285

Pretty weak sauce for a 175 grain 10mm.  Hornady better send some of these off to Underwood.  He will load them up. :P

Maybe the bashing I gave Hornady about leaving the 10mm guys out with the ZOMBIE MAX may have touched them!
Having the 175 Flex Tip will suffice, event hough it doesn't have the Lime-Green Flex-Tip... :o

However, Hornaddy should have loaded them to 1300 fps (would have been a great performance level) as it would have even capture the Winchester market share of SilverTips!

Agreed. Hornady dropped the ball with this one. I was going to save them for carry, but I think now I will just shoot them.

I have 3 forty caliber pistols. I don't need another.
