Title: Let's see your 610 revolver!
Post by: Zephyr on August 27 2013 07:29:11 PM MDT
Here's a picture of my newest 610 beneath an older 625.  Both are fantastic handguns.

Sorry these are such poor pics.

Beautiful guns.

The coveted 3" Model 610... :o 8)
How sweet is that?

Shadow, when I bought the 'Lew Horton'.  I didn't realize, that there was anything 'special' about the big snubbie other than, the 10mm chambering.  So I bought the revolver from an enthusiast's point-of-view.  The guy behind the counter thought it would make "a very nice paperweight".  It seems like I always score good guns by buying what I like.  The same can be said for my Dan Wesson Razorback

Zephyr, I would hang on to that 3".  The last couple that I've seen on GB had "buy it now" prices over 2k and both were bought using that option.  I also saw that the last one on there never reached the reserve, but I believe that I know the person who did end up buying it and they were talking of paying over $2500.  Not 100% that the deal went through and exactly how much they paid, but I never saw it come up again.

Post by: Zephyr on August 28 2013 08:01:14 PM MDT
ahoss, I knew that the 610's were going for around 1K the last time I checked.  But, I had no idea they were commanding prices in the insane 2k range!   I bought both of these for less than $800 USD, brand new.  S&W would be well-advised to to do another run of these revolvers perhaps 500 to start out.  I don't think they will ever do any more 10xx-series automatics though.  Your right, I plan on holding on to my 'snubbie'.  The 4" is the perfect 'field gun' despite the integral-lock.  A guy on the Smith Forum sells/manufactures plugs for these.  Capitalism is a 'strange thing', shortage still drives price and some will pay any amount to get what they want.

I love that 5" model, I have all but given up on finding a 610 no lock for under $1000 so I think I'm going to take things into my own hands and get a GP100 on the list for a 10mm conversion.

Here is a factory rarity due to the barrel markings. According to the factory they only produced two 610-2's marked such as this, one was kept "in house" and mine is the only one in private hands.

As far as I've seen, Pre safety 610 barrels are marked "10mm" on the right side and "Smith & Wesson" on the left side. And post safety 610's are marked in the reverse, having "Smith & Wesson" on the right side and "10mm" on the left.

This 4" 610-2 is marked "Smith & Wesson" on the left side and "610 Classic" on the right.

Here is another 4" barrel 610-2 with standard barrel markings.

Alas, in a moment of weakness (read insanity) I sold both.

Badhammer, beautiful example of a Lew Horton 610.  I like your choice of the 'Ernie Emerson' blade.  As of now, I carry my 4" version of the 610 [see pic below] with a Zero Tolerance 301 Tiger.  I'm waiting on a set of VZ grips for the 'Horton', and a Guide's Choice shoulder-holster from 'Diamond D Leather' in Alaska.

What are each of those, if you don't mind?

And here is a 4" 610-2 with totally different barrel markings. The other side of the barrel has nothing on it. The 610 is also missing the laser etched "S&W" logo...neither side has it, and there is no evidence of any logo being removed. Maybe the side plate was swapped??? I acquired it a couple of weeks ago but have not had the chace to shoot it yet. I like the Millet sight that came with it.

My only other 10mm firearm is a G20 SF...along with a Lone Wolf 40 conversion barrel.

Just a heads-up for those who own ZT knives.  VZ grips sells 'Zero Tolerance' knives now at this time, with their own proprietary G10 scales.  These are available on the 300-series, and 320-series knives [VZ ZT customs].  Just out of curiosity, I sent an email asking if the G10 scales w/o the knives would be for sale, and they answered affirmatively.  Very soon!  A really nice upgrade for those who own ZT Knives already.

Mine is just like USNMike's.
Last year, I bought one just like it from LGS that was NIB w/ everything that came from the factory.I had listed for sale here and then w/d it and listed it on "Big Blue" and could have sold 2-3 more in no time. Hated to sell it. Think of all the fun I could have had with a 610 in each hand. LOL
Just love the fluted cylinder as opposed to the unfluted one. Told my wife to put it in the casket with me if I go first.LOL
Accurate shooter and just plain fun to shoot!
Had trouble w yoke screw not holding the yoke assembly. I could point the barrel down and the whole assembly would fall out. I could push it back in and could feel the spring-loaded tip of the screw "snap" when it got to the grove. (I was using screws ordered from Numrich).
Called customer service @ S&W, and explained the problem I was having and the rep said I had the incorrect screw. I was pleasantly surprised when he said he would ship me one and there would be no charge for anything. I asked if I could get a couple more and he told me that he would have to charge me for all the screws plus shipping.
I put it in when I got it and while the length was only a few thousands longer, it seems to have solved the problem with the yoke assembly.
Mentioned this so maybe some one w/ a need for a yoke screw could maybe get one get one from S & W for free.
