Title: 10mm three shot group!
Post by: TurboGeo on August 17 2013 08:36:45 PM MDT
I have found my 10mm deer hunting load.

Brass- Starline brass
Bullet- Nosler 200gr JHP
Primer- Federal LP
Powder- Blue Dot 10.0gr
C.O.A.L.- 1.254" w/slight taper crimp

Here is a picture of a three shot group at 7 yards.  What are your thoughts?  ;D

Nice.
For Hunting, I would take it out to 25 yards and see if the accuracy holds up.

I agree. I try to practice within 50 yards but generally only shoot out around 30 yards at deer.

I took it as far as our indoor range would allow, 25 yards.  My shoots did open up quite a bit, due to my inability to hold her steady.  My group opened up to about 6"+/-.  I reloaded 250 rounds of the same charge and will practice in closing my group before I take my G20sf in the field for the first hunt.  I have never hunted with a handgun my .270Win has been the caliber of choice.

What would be an acceptable grouping at 25 yards?  I was told I should be able to hit a pie tin consistently at 100 yards with a rifle but not sure with a handgun.  I would NOT take a shot longer than maybe 50 yards.  Thanks -Geo

For me I try to keep groups within a 6ish inch circle (about a pie plate) and that is the distance I am comfortable shooting at. I also try to to keep my shots broadside or quartering away for the deepest penetration or a pass through shot. I find that if I hunt in a similar way to how I bow hunt then all is good. I also love shooting out of my Summit Viper with the rail as a rest.

Very good , Nosler's should hold together pretty well.
