It's a great shooter and accurate.Im still seeing those rounded slides though.Have they improved those slides of now?
Don't know. Guess they work for some.
Those slides are here to stay. I have read, but can't find the reference, that the cracking was related to bad heat treat that just happened to coincide with the new slide profile.
The reports of cracking have fallen way off.
If you do happen to come across the read on the slide issue, please let us know.
Thanks
I recently bought a Witness Compact in 45ACP, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it. I don't shoot it as well as some others, but I'm working on it. The mags hold 8 rounds, and it carries well. I'm already a committed Witness fan, I currently own 6 of them, if you count the 1994 model in 40S&W I gave to my son. A 10mm, three 45's, and another 40, the Match gun, which is one of the sweetest guns I've ever shot. The 45 Compact takes the same mags as the Match guns, so a spare mag can be either size. The sights are fairly crude for older eyes like mine, but for a CCW gun it has everything I like.
The Witness 45's:

The 45 Match is on top, the middle gun is a one-off SA gun the previous owner had built when he worked for EAA/Tanfoglio, and the compact is on the bottom.
The 10mm is stock except for a better rear sight I installed, and a heavier recoil spring.

Very nice! I want another Witness piece but tore between a Pro or Limited.
Although the Delta Gold Cup is my true P & J, I really like the Witness
I started with a 10mm Semi Compact, then added the 22 and 10mm Longslide Conversion Uppers

Nice group of EAA's you've got there. My shooting buddy just sent his 10mm compact in because he found a crack in the slide its a 2007 model.
DenStinett, I had somehow managed to mentally bury the notion of getting a 10mm Longslide to put on my only Wonder-Finish gun, but seeing yours has resuscitated my desire for one. That would make an awesome pig-basher! Have you chrony'd enough loads to know how much more velocity it gives you? It sure is an impressive-looking rig!
I really like my Witness Compact in 45ACP (shot it again yesterday ;D) but the thought of a short-barreled 10mm just makes me cringe. My Witness would get shot more if it didn't throw brass (at lethal velocities :o) into the next area code, but the blast is also pretty fearsome. My son shot this video a few months ago, and he still giggles like a little girl anytime he sees it!

My thanks to those who made positive comments about my "Witless" collection, I have been a big fan since I bought my small-frame 40 in the early 90's, and I still think they're one of the better values on the gun market. I found the 10mm languishing in a small gun shop display case, dusty and unloved. I left with the gun, factory ammo, empty brass and a holster. The shop manager had apparently heard about the cracked slides on the later guns, and had it marked down to $359. I don't plan on telling him it's one of the good ones!
i love my 10mm compact i did have the mag release crack but had it welded up and its good as new.
PopaJohn:
Sorry, no
In my 55 years of shooting, I have yet to Crono any of my Guns
The Longslide is really accurate, and fun to shoot
I'm thinking of having it and the Compact Slide coated Matte Black, like the 22 Slide
I really like that DuoTone look
Funny how a GS Owner would know so little about what he has in his own Shop
Great find
Put the Hogue on and it will feel like it is part of your hand. Best grip feel ever!

I did, and they were a bit too large for my Hand, so I got rid of them
I have them on both of my CZs and my Delta Gold Cup though
And you're right, the grip feels outstanding
My compact 10 Witness wonder finish had recently cracked behind left safety. In EAA's hands since May.Over all,the compacts in my opinion are limited and really not sound for the 10mm.But it will be my range gun,IF i get er back.

If I were you I would contact EAA because my shooting buddy's slide cracked on his 2007-10mm compact he sent the slide to EAA and got it back in a little over a week and they even installed adjustable sights. He said it had fixed sights when he sent it in and said there was no charge and he was quite happy about their customer service and the way it ran at the range yesterday. Although he said he kept inspecting the slide since the first one cracked on him and he was leerie now of it happening again.
I am not bagging on EAA for sending your friends gun back with adjustable sights. But....I would bet money that happened because they already had a slide laying there with adjustable sights on it.
Not outstanding CS, just laziness that worked to their advantage. IMHO.

Now that I think about it your probably right. Good call,
It was sent back due to cracked frame in May. It already went thru the slide syndrome. The crack was behind safety all the way to rear where there is a space from slide to frame. Last response was they are waiting on replacement.
Hopefully some movement soon. As I mentioned before...Seems like for parts like slides, etc, they just grab whatever stock is laying around that will work. For a frame, they have to bring in a new one from Italy.
Was on Gun Broker and i see the compacts are now showing a better slide like the full size. That was on a .40 up for sale.

Picture of pacapcop's compact. Looks like they gave you an all brand new piece!
Yes they did, it's all new. More of a quality piece, barrel feed ramp is smoother, no ruff edges, slide is hefty and new in design. Mag release appears more exteneded, I don't know if it's because of the new plastic grips, maybe not as thick as previous rubber grips allowing release to extend out more. Thumb rest on grip nice feature.
I do like the Front Cocking Serrations and Combat Sights over the older Square Slides

Well I put in a Wolff 16lb spring, ran very smooth. Used Armscor and Selway HP's. Slide not battering as with the under sprung fact 14lb nonsense. Next up 18lb with a stronger mag spring. Going to try the 10% upgrade on mag. Looks good so far for the compact.
Put some 10mm ammo in that thing :P
Ill try the Nugent round next outing. She is fun to shoot and very accurate. No steady diet of hardcore.
I don't blame you. A few here and there is awesome but no need to hammer it.
Great day with the Witness Compact. Put in a 18lb Wolff spring and started off with Armscor 180 fmj's. Ran like a top, recoil dampened however shells still fly at least 20 ft. None the less, I stepped it up with Nugent rounds (Pierce). Few FTF's and started to get bumbed. At that point I put in 12 rnds of Swamp fox 180 JHP Golden Sabers rated at 1325. Ran 100%. Kept running them, no issues. Put in Georgia Arms 180's JHP's, ran 100%. Weak hand/strong hand at 7,15 and 25. Much better and I can say the Compact in it's current platform is capable of real 10mm with some minor upgrades. Still used the Wolff 5% mag spring tension.
pacapcop, I was just reviewing the ones you sent for pull-down, I have yet gone to shoot them since I put them back together. BTW-Good report! :D
Only around 100 rnds total thru compact, but very pleased considering the past. Good to know the 9mm/.40 heavy compact spring did it's job in the compact 10. That factory duel setup is horrible.
Ever think about using a Sprinco in it?
I see they have it for the Compact 10mm.Might be awhile,$$$.Range yesterday, shot nickel 180 jhp xtp's from underwood.Compact mags seem to like the nickel. No hiccups with full mags.
For your compact absolutely! I know I would and plan on contacting both vendors tomorrow. If one is open to me sending my cone guide-rod I would like to see if they can make that addition too. You may want to check for contact like I did on mine. The Limited Pro in this short time shows a couple of hits and of course the beaver is really visible.
If you get the Sprinco you may want to contact them because the Corbon model is for full throttle nukes! The standard may fit the bill and just change to your spring level on the outside. At any rate it is 60 day money back plus lifetime on breakage. Don't like it, send it back!
