Hi all,
I am new to this forum, but not to shooting. I am sure I will learn a lot here and hopefully contribute as well. I have an opportunity to buy a New GEN4 G20 in FDE from my LGS. I have never owned a 10 MM but have always been interested in the cartridge. The price is also attractive. I'd like to ask, should I take the plunge? Can I expect the legendary Glock reliability and durability from this pistol? I also wonder if the Gen 4 G20 suffers from the "brass to head" ejection issues some of the 9MM Glocks have exhibited? I really like the feel of the pistol and am really tempted. Please help me "pull the trigger" or would I be better served with another brand of 10mm?
Thanks in advance from any feedback!
Hey, welcome to the Forum
I am the wrong person to ask about a G20, but as for the 10mm.....I LOVE IT
The Cartadge is very fun to shoot and reload
As for a PD / HD Load, I carry it daily
Hope you take the plung...with one Pistol or another
Enjoy
Welcome! Tons of info, platforms, etc... here! 8)
I can't speak for a Gen 4, but my Gen 3 G20SF doesn't have any BTF issues.
akatayori, welcome to the forum! Recent G-20 4th Generation guns have shown some undesirable failure to feed some types of ammo. There could be issues in respect to timing and slide speeds using certain types of higher impulse ammo. You will need to read about these that were reported here. It seems that some functioned reliably with the weaker factory loads, some were locking the slide even with rounds in the magazine. I believe some of these guys are still trying to resolve things.
I recently picked up a 3rd Generation G-20SF and haven't had any issues with what I've tested so far... :D
Thanks for the feedback. I find the possibility of the Gen 4 having issues with ammo quite concerning. I may need to rethink this.

What, the reliable Glock ability to go kaboom shooting reloads?
I kid, I kid....new Glocks are supposed to have taken care of that problem. Too bad their grips just don't fit my short fingered hand. Since you like the feel, I say GO FOR IT!
I like the SF but also have a model 20 grip fits ok not back strap added and Imhave run over 1500 rds through it not a FTF ran great.
Welcome to the forum! I love the grip texture of the Gen 4's but settled on a Gen 3 20SF simply because it was tried and proven and at the time there were more recoil springs etc. available for it.
With real 10mm ammo I sincerely doubt that the G20 will have any BTF issues... unlike the 9mm Glock the cartridges launch almost into orbit from the G20. With target 115 gr FMJ the Gen 4 G17 cases barely dribble out of the ejection port, with +p+ the cases land about 5-7' away... with the G20 the cases launch 10-20'+ away depending on the load.
As far as case life goes... I am on my 5th loading of my first batch of Underwood cases, none of them have been loaded to "Nuclear" levels after the initial loading but 9.2 gr. Longshot under a 165/180 gr. bullet is definitely full power. Most of the loadings have been through the stock barrel. The problem I've found with the 10mm is that brass gets lost easily... ends up in the rafters, on top of buildings, clear out in the weeds somewhere... lol.

It's not the front to back of the grip causing the problem, it's the double stack girth. Just puts my fingers in the wrong place.
But hey, he said he LIKED the feel of one.
You can have the grip reshaped and that addressed for a very reasonable cost.
I have a gen3 G20 SF , no problems

Or I can just buy the 1911's I like much better, which is what I did.

Welcome to the forum!
If you really don't want to take the chance with the Gen 4, but do like the attributes and overall feel of the G20 platform, I'ld suggest finding a new 3rd Gen. That said, while I can guarantee nothing, it seems the majority of Gen 4 G20 owners have no issues and there is a good chance yours would be just fine. I'm thinking on the off chance of a worst case scenario, you may simply have to be selective in the ammo you feed it.
I have a Gen 3 G20 and Gen 3 G29. I don't personally own any Gen 4. Therefore take my advice for the 2 cents it's worth. 8)
