In my normal ammo can I take needle nose, instrument screwdrivers, straight screwdriver. I realize now though I need a set of hex's (standard/metric), Loctite and some oil. Would be nice to find a compact kit tailored for gun service.
Try brownells.

Need to see if the hex sizes takes care of all my sight needs. Has a bore light too!

+1 BROWNELLS!
Your Topic asks for the best place for gun tools, Well....
While Midway supports our sport with great TV shows and they give back money to our sports as well; I believe we should support Midway USA. However when it comes to gun tools. spend a few dollars more and go with Brownells for tools that are the "Snap -on or Craftsman" quality tools of the gun tool trade. I have learned the hard way by buying inferior tools from "gun sources" that have only messed up my guns or the tools themselves broke.
I have never been disappointed with the tools that I bought from Brownells and was glad to pay the extra money.
No disrepect towards the OP,I sure the tool(s) will serve him well. It may even be in the Brownell's catalog. :)

Ditto. Get on their mailing list and watch for the sales. They're a bit high, otherwise. They often (a few times a year) put up nice complete kits, boxed and/or zippered. They have their own branded products, as well as others, like NRA (which supports them). The NRA store, come to think of it, had something like that some time ago.
Now that I have a bigger screen....
Brownells also has great do-it-yourself videos going over lots of worthwhile things. Slide to frame fit, re-parkerizing, gunkote.
And, they have about every part known to man.
They do have a couple of models by Avid (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=31859/Product/THE-GUN-TOOL). This is the tool (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=27092/Product/1911-AUTO-POCKETSMITH-IIG)I got from them when I got my 1911.
Cool. I will go over their site and see what fits my needs. Thanks!
If you need OEM parts for any firearm, including OEM option parts, Numrich is the place (www.gunpartscorp.com). ALWAYS call the phone number, and they'll give you an order code for reduced S/H. They also have drawings online for nearly every gun that ever existed.
I too agree that Brownells is the best site for gunsmithing tools. However, with the exception of scewdrivers and specialized tools, another good source is you local Sears Hardware Store for Craftsman hand tools. You get to see what you're buying before ordering, and all Craftsman tools have a lifetime guarantee plus no shipping charges. JMHO.
Harbor freight for some stuff, one time use things.

I got my brass tumbler their. Used it a fair bit more than once too.
For anyone needing parts......
Numrich is having a sale for the 4th. 17.76% off (go figure). Got an email with the code: JYQ0645381TG . Good through the 5th.
Thanks! I'll have to check that out
I will have to check that too. Been wanting a micrometer for measurements I really care about.
Harbor Freight is a good place to buy tools, however I much prefer to shop at Sears, since all their "Craftsman" tools are all American made and have a lifetime guarantee. I have also noticed that Brownells are now marking items that are USA made also. Buy American and help create an American job!
I bought a punch set and a small hammer at Harbor Freight for the pins, it has brass on one side, plastic on the other side.
I placed an order with Brownells yesterday but just for gun parts. That multi-tool was out of stock so I decided to piece my own kit together with Sears tools. Plus it didn't have the Hex sizes I need for my tasks. Now I just need to find a little compact case to put it all in.
Harbor Freight may be on visit list again because I would like to find a squirt can to put the Hoppe's #9 in.

Be careful and read all the small print. A lot of the "Craftsman" marked tools are made offshore these days. They will still honor the warranty, however.

Okay, it's an old post I missed. I'd suggest Enco for a source of quality measurement tools. Sometimes they'll have Starrett or Mitytoyo tools on sale. Most of the 'house' branded stuff you find is usually of Chinese origin. I've found the Chinese stuff is accurate when new, but doesn't last like a quality piece. Sadly, even Starrett offers some low end Chinese pieces with their name on them just to compete.

Good to know. Thanks ED! :)
