If you were choosing between a brand new Dan Wesson RZ-10 or Colt Delt Elite, and are limited to owning one or the other, which would you choose (outside of the one you like the "looks" of best)?
Does either offer more chamber support over the other?
The DW wins on all points. You have to do a barrel swap to even get started venturing up the 10mm ammo ladder.

Wow. You guys are getting me to think the only reason the Delta costs what it does is the name "Colt" on it, where maybe is should realistically be a $600 gun.
I'd buy the RZ-10.
Looks. Razor on the left and Delta on the right:

Love the fit and finish on my Razor. It was tight as crap when I first got it but shoots about everything perfect now.
No comparison looking at chamber support. Thanks for the pics! And I thought Glock chamber support was pitiful, but isn't looking so bad anymore compared to that Delta support.
What stock weight recoil spring does DW use?
20lb spring. I'm trying to find where you can order heavier springs for it.
I wonder if any other gun manufacturer's platform would use the same diameter and length spring your RZ-10 uses that would be available in a higher spring weight that you could swap into your RZ-10. Might be something to look into.
Good thread, should healp DW sales. :)
wolff stocks recoil springs up to insane strengths for 1911's. I seem to recall mine has a 24 in it i got from them.
Any 1911 spring will work?
I know of a few Colts that had sever bulged casings because of the lack of support...so my vote would be for the DW as well.
The Kimber 1911 is right with the DW. Great support, good fit/finish but it does have some MIM parts.

As a general rule, yeah. 1911's were the original mix and match gun. Unless you have some radical recoil set-up you should be able to order from Wolff. Call and ask if you are concerned, but I am sure they have springs for the RZ from mild to wild. I just looked at the site and they offer from 7 lb to 28 lbs. They also offer variable power springs. They have hammer springs up to 34 lbs.

Please forgive my ignorance.....what does "MIM" stand for? Made In Mexico?
They are not hard parts.

Metal Injection Mold. Lots of parts are made that way now. Depending on the part I don't think it is a big deal. The mag release on my gun is MIM and I don't see any issue at all.
I would not be a big fan of a MIM sear, but I wouldn't wanted a plain forged sear either. I want a sear from tool steel. :P

Sorrry, I overlooked previous post.
The Kimber does have a plastic main housing I believe.
My Para has a composite mainspring housing. One of the gunsmith guys that write for American Handgunner commented on this once. He said there was lots of uproar when Colt started using them, but he had never personally seen on break.
Thanks Guys!, for filling me in on "MIM." I seriously had no clue. :-[
I have really grown fond of all metal guns. Just something about them as opposed to anything with 1% plastic.
Don't over look the Kimbers. You might have to replace the extractor and a couple of other parts but the one that I have seen are accurate and reliable.....after an extractor replacement. Brian Pierce did an article a couple of years ago on the 10mm and the Kimber he was shooting shot 1" groups at 25 yards. So if you can't find a DW Razorback don't over look the Kimber.
There are no MIM parts used on DW's, below is a Match grade, custom one off DW I got in Dec of '11 special order that even includes custom serial number BTRZ001 Bobtailed built for me by Keith. The FO sight I thought I needed I had replaced with target front sight, I found it distracting. I waited about 6 or 8 months for delivery. I ordered a twin to it this month, only in 38 Super.

Beautiful gun R. Squid ;).
Very nice. 8)
Yes. High quality guns!
Razorback, no question..... (unless its an older blued Delta with collectors value... otherwise, DAN WESSON RAZORBACK!!)
Excellent replies above everyone. TYVM! I think some day if all goes well I might own a Razorback. If things go really well, maybe a Kimber too. They are kind of on my list of guns I don't "need" but really really "want."
For now though the number one handgun that I don't need but want is the Coonan Classic .357 Magnum Automatic.

Before any of that though is other stuff I "need." :D
Ahh yes give me that top one in black! :P
Hello, All!
I'm brand new here - first post - but I couldn't let this one pass by.
On my 40th birthday, my wife said, "let's go to a gun shop": she'd never said that before.
When we got there she said "let's get what you want": she'd never said that before, either.
There were a few nice handguns. A couple of nice rifles. Two very nice 10mm's. But there was only one choice: I walked out with an RZ-10.
I've had three other 10mm's - a Glock 20, a standard Witness, and a Witness Match. Liked them all. None compare to my Razorback!
Right now, I'm looking at new sights and grips for it. Thinking about Dawson Precision F.O. front and Stealth Charger rear. Also considering new grips... the wood ones are just too pretty for field carry.
I'd take a Delta Elite, and I'd enjoy it. But my "serious" 10mm is my Dan Wesson. It hikes, camps, travels, and goes to work with me. I carry an "FBI" load for normal "social" duties and an appropriate Double-Tap load for the field (need to try Underwood's "Delta Elite" load in it).
It always gets "the look" when I take it to "tactical" classes. I love it.
I'll post pics when I get my project done!
By the way... did I mention? I love my wife! ;)
Very nice choice, the RZ-10. Congrats. Looks like you made a good choice with the wife as well.
Razorback, no doubt about it.
Scott
Buddy10mm, congrats, with th RZ10 and a good woman! Both keepers! ;D
Happy RZ-10. I passed on one a number of years ago and am still kicking myself about it.
I'm seriously considering changing out the sights to Dawson Precision Stealth Charger rear and a narrower fiber optic front. As soon as that's settled, I'll get pics posted.

Why I would chose the Dan Wesson:
21 feet using my Razorback and my favorite 185 grain 10mm reloads.

Nice.
