Title: Plastic
Post by: MCQUADE on May 30 2013 02:18:38 PM MDT
I went out of town today to sale a gentleman a nice collectors piece. After the deal was done I desided to take my time going home and hit 5 gun shops on my way. I guess the good news is, there was ample stock of firearms at each shop, but, the polymer/plastic guns outnumbered steel guns by at least 10 to 1. No 10mm of any kind. The only decent steel gun I found was a used Blackhawk convertible. I ain't but 44 yrs old, but damn, I feel older now. I have my g20 and 29, but that's it for plastic. I'm so pissed I feel like dumping them (to buy some more 3rd gen smith's). Just venting, sorry

It was the reason I started my 10mm collection with the S&W1006, real stainless steel...then the addiction took over!  :o

Yes I got the plastic fantastics also... :D

I have one plastic (the Wife's) and the rest are Steel. I don't even want an Aluminum frame after having one fail in my hand and don't like the feel of her plastic gun but it works.

If S&W did the M&P in 10mm I would buy one. Same for Springfield but those are my two plastic go-too!

Sometimes being in the minority is the best place to be.

I would consider plastic only under these conditions: True double action, has a hammer, has a true safety. Maybe I would consider one of the polymer Witnesses.

Reaper, I was leary as heck when I saw them, and actually fired my first Glock.  I thought they were  >:D
The thing about the Glocks are they are ready as in partially pre-cocked,squeeze the trigger and they go bang!  They hold plenty ammo vs. the weight of the pistol.
So many Law Enforcement agencies can't be wrong.  They are simple, easy to maintain and reliable...what's not to like!  ;D

Just cause they aren't wrong doesn't make them right :P

I like my Glock fine.  And it gets carried 1-2 days a week.  But I much prefer steel.

I have to say that one steel gun i admire the most is a Sig.I used on the job as a 357 sig and now a .45.Thousands of rounds, not one issue. They are so prime material for a 10,imho.

I bought my plastic Glock 29 for a reason.

One time in northern California, had to jump a creek while hiking. It wandered through a  grass meadow, deep but narrow, maybe seven feet wide. Made the jump, but the bed collapsed under my weight and backpack. Fortunately, I leaned forward, grabbed grass to keep from sinking, but my pants up to the waist got wet.

Dried out the Glock, no problem.  ;D

I carry a Glock everyday and have no problem with it. That being saaid I was born about 50 year to late. I am OLD SCHOOL when it come to my guns. I like steel. Why cause I like it. I know plastic works and is strong but steel is what i grew up with. In rifles and handguns, My first plastic gun was issued to me by the good ole US Goverment and they told me it was the best and to take care of it. What a bunch of shit that was.

Glocks make great woods guns.

I always have at least one on me when I am hunting predators at night as a backup to my Mossberg.

Especially for anytime one is in the woods packing plenty of any other gear.  A few ounces less in firearm weight can start making a noticeable difference.

No doubt. I carry enough gear in the woods as it is.

Well, I'm just old.....I like wood and steel myself with firearms. That being said I still think highly of my G20SF and M&P 357 Sig. Maybe not as pretty, but quite functional, none the less, as my Smiths and Colts. Like yourself Uncle Sam gave me one of those 'made by Mattel' rifles long ago.....never thought very highly of it either.

I really don't care for plastic eating utensils.  When the going gets touch, my fork tends to break tines.

I don't perceive the same issues with plastic guns.  In fact, in a Zombie apocalypse, I would probably be happier to stumble across a glock than a 1911.  I would have more confidence it was "good to go".

But in guns I test and use, I prefer a good 1911.
