Title: M+M M10-7.62 AK get them while you can!
Post by: Intercooler on May 18 2013 08:44:38 PM MDT
At least here in MD. In Oct we will no longer be able to purchase them and this has been on the radar. It's as cheap as before when things went to hell. Yup... sprung for one and now because someone posted the link like I did  :o  have to cancel my Witness 9mm conversion kit although it's been a couple of months and still no ship date.

I would rather have the Phoenix stock but can add it later when Oct passes  :D

Seems the reviews put it as one of the top offerings behind the Arsenal. The Vepr's are extremely nice but configured different and won't accept high capacity mags.

Yes, the reviews have been solid. I can't find where such high end guns are really any better besides fit and finish. I'm sure they may be but I don't really know why. The M10 has a bunch of great features for the money, many of which are not known to the common entusiast. 4 of my buddies have bought them because I did and all are happy with their purchase.

Whenever I order something like this something goes wrong. I ordered one from Bud's back when they were $599. They sent me mail saying they couldn't ship due to the high capacity magazine. I'm hoping not this place and/or it is really not in stock.

I think I remeber that. They also wouldn't ship it to you without the mag if I'm not mistaken. Well, hope this works out for you.

At least you are getting it.

In your hunt for mags, you may come across these...

http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ak7630stmagn.html (http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ak7630stmagn.html)

And may be wondering if they are good. I bought 8 of them, these are the thinner variety of the bulgarians and they are good...but you might have to do some filing. I did (filed them) and they work, no probs. Some of my other buddies had purchased some of these as well, they also had to do some filing. Seems the mag catch might be a bit snug on the M10 (also had to file a Romy mag). Not a big deal but I don't know what will fit your classification of "good" from what's available through da internets. I can't recommend them outright because they take a bit of fitting but I personally would not have a problem purchasing more.

That's right and Bud's wouldn't do that! I read somewhere the good fitting ones (no wobble) need filed some.

Tapcos on my Sar 1 Romo are no wobble.Their good and work for me.I use Bulgarian,Korean made 40 rounders, all work.Like any new mag, spend little time putting mag in and out to avoid  fileing. Sometimes im aware fileing is required, just work it naturally.Ck KeepShooting.com for mags as well.

It's a 7 day wait but with the backlog it's at 70 days. Should be a law or protest against that! Some places are releasing early I hear.

Ordered some ammo for it today.

If the state law requires 7 days, then that's what it is.  It isn't the fault of The People, if the state has a backlog.  Is there a separate law that requires FFL's to withhold a purchase if the state doesn't reply?  Futile argument I know, but wrong is wrong.  CA has a 10 day "cooling off period" law, and the transaction is completed after 10 days, regardless of the "state's" response time.  It's the law.

Yeah..Same here in Utah.

Of course, we don't have a wait period generally.  Walk in, pay money, leave with gun UNLESS you don't pass the instant background check.  I have only seen that happen once, to a friend of mine.  He had a bench warrant out because the clerk didn't mark a ticket paid.  Took him about an hour of phone calls to resolve.

Makes me glad I live in a free part of our country.

Ya know...Now that Illinois has a CCW law that will allow me to get a permit for that state, CA is left as only only place I travel with any regularity that I can't carry a gun.  It really is a shame.

CA CCW laws suck, no doubt.  No reciprocity.  No out of state issue, with only a couple exceptions (diplomatic security is one).  The only way around any of this is the federal reciprocity proposal, but I doubt it'll get close to passing without some serious partisan changes in D.C.

Picked it up early this morning and took it with me on my pistol outing. Didn't have time to clean it before going, so I checked the bore and rolled! It shoots pretty darn accurate and ate all the ammo types I took without a hiccup... Golden Tiger, Wolf, Tula and Herter's. I think I put 250 rounds through it with zero ammo issues. I tried three different magazines I purchased for it and the factory Tapco works perfect. The high priced Circle 10's need some fitting as the release doesn't let go without pliers. The last one is Tapco Intrafuse which also needs work to clip in place. They should all work fine with some filing next time out!

Things I don't like about this AK:

- Can't see the front sight clear enough. I'm going to paint it or replace with something more visible.
- HATE HATE the stock that comes it comes with! Another AK owner there also said he hates his stock of a different design. We both commented about getting an adjustable like AR's use (my Christmas request).

My target blew over several times at 30 yards which forced me to shoot at the 100 yard bank. I easily flipped a piece of wood up several times at that range. It's accurate for sure and the trigger pull couldn't be better!

I ordered a tactical mag release for it and still researching front sights. I can't believe someone doesn't make a gold bead/ball for it! The paint option hasn't been ruled out but I'm also trying to locate a sleeve which can be slid over the front post in a visible color.

The last couple of days I have been watching videos on AK's and the Polytech is deemed the Holy Grail (price reflects this), but for most purposes I just don't see it.

Second time out with it today. I'm learning this AK thing!

I put some orange nail polish on the front sight which seemed to help a little bit.
The last time out I found it a challenge bench shooting with the 30 round magazines so I ordered a couple of 10 rounders. Excellent for the task! It's also a must to have the magazine loader as the second part of the equation.
This time the oil splattering was minimal, but next cleaning I am using one drop on a Q-Tip for lube! I ordered the Phoenix Kicklite adjustable stock to replace the rather small stock Tapco. I'm right at about 400 rounds through it so far and not a single issue.

I'm happy with what the AK platform does and that is run! Again today an AR had some magazine issues with jamming prompting the RSO to have a look. The AK is made to eat dirt and keep plugging away! I'm really starting to think they like it better without any oil  :o

There are night sights for the AK variants.  Midway has some and also a 6 piece front post set with different sized balls and rods ( :o), that you could paint white or green or red or whatever.

Here is a night front sight post for the AK:  http://www.onesourcetactical.com/amerigloak-47frontnightsightm6x075threadfront.aspx#.UrIH9tiA270

btw, I got myself a couple gifts for X-Mass that should be at my FFL at the end of the week.  I will post pics once they follow me home.

I have read some mixed reviews on that mag release since the lock downs are metal threaded thru the polymer/plastic.  Wish someone made an aluminum version of that exact one.  Let us know how it lasts long term.

Tried out the stock today and love it! I put 160 rounds through it and the feel is much improved. The release is still holding just fine and all I need now is a front sight adjusting tool.

560 rounds without a single issue. No oil splattering after the last cleaning which tells me I'm perfect for the amount of oil.

Not really. I shot it as-is the first time out and it was soaked from the MFG prompting me to do a glass cleaning every three shots. After the first cleaning it was better but still some splatter. After that session I cleaned it again and put maybe two drops of oil smeared on the rail/bolt and that's it. Today was no splatter! Pretty sure all the oil other then what I applied is gone!

So I finally got around to taking pics of the new AKs.  VEPR MD2 with the wood furniture and an Arsenal SAM7R-61.  Since the VEPR has the thicker RPK stamped receiver, it seems to weigh a bit more than the milled Arsenal.  The Arsenal has the Warsaw Pact stock so it is shorter too.  First mod will likely to get a NATO length stock for the SAM7.  Have not gotten to take them to the range yet, but will soon.  The ranges around here all want non-magnetic rounds and the outdoor 100 yd range does not allow fmj.  Did find a range about an hour away that allows anything, even milsurp stuff, so once a nice weekend comes it will be on.  and the drum mags I ordered should be here by then  :o ;D

realized the camera was set on a high resolution, so I had to resize them smaller.  hope they are still viewable decently.  You get the idea.  hehe

When Sportsman's Guide runs deals on 7.62x54R it's hard to beat the price on spam cans.

SGA also has brand new Romanian 75 rd drums for $77.  I snagged a couple for the fun of it and the ones I got are brand spanking new.  These are the wind up ones that you can keep loaded up without spring pressure and give it 4 full 360 degree winds and rain down the pain.  Too late, but Palmetto State had surplus Yugo BHO AK mags for $12 each [had to pick up 20 at that price]. I haven't had time to remove the cosmoline yet but they look fine.  if not, rattlecan black will make them look Purdy again.  ;)

BTW, Magpul is releasing their 30 round AK mag after Shot Show and their site shows them to be $19.  I am expecting much better quality than the other US made polymer mags, but will have to see how they work.  I don't see much info on it's construction but guessing it does not have metal locking tabs at that price point :(  I would guess they will might be stiff competition for the US Palm mags.  I personally like the steel mags for the AK.  the ruggedness fits the guns design and never clean it with all kinds of crap in it reliability.   8)

I have been extremely happy with the Tapcos. My 30's work great, but are a little long for bench shooting. I picked up three 10 rounders and use them every session. I have two of the metal tab Circle 10 30 rounders, but don't use them.
