Title: So much for ordering factory direct from Starline
Post by: REDLINE on May 12 2013 01:30:50 AM MDT
At this time Starline is refusing to accept orders for 10mm Auto brass cases.

So much for waiting for a backorder to be filled.  They at least for now won't even accept a backorder.  Never seen that before with them.

It's rougher than I thought out there.  There's bad, and then there's Starline refusing backorders.  What next? :-\

Don't ask!  It could be a lot worse.

I don't need 10mm brass now, but did find some in stock a couple days ago while shopping around.  Somewhere. (I can look it up, if you need)  I just canceled a backorder for brass at Double Tap.  No forecast.  No communication. (good brass, though)  I have some .380 brass on backorder at Starline, supposed to be available in a week.  We'll see.

Told you it was bad. I too saw some 10mm somewhere last week. Also found a bunch of bullets but they are light weights. Barnes 140 gr M/LE. I think the brass I saw was the nickel plated kind. I too saw that Starline note saying no back orders on 10mm for now. Its not only ammo guys its components. Easiest thing to find right now is guns. They are about as good as a hammer without ammo.

My take on this is "meh..."

It has long appeared to me that Starline's business model has been to make what has been sold plus a little more.  They don't really maintain a "stock" per se.  Most of the items I peruse on their site even say that:  Next run when sufficient backorder occurs.

I merely take this to mean they have enough 10mm backorders that you actually might have to wait more than 8-10 weeks for your brass.  I would guess in about 30-45 days they will start taking accepting orders again.

And this went up about a week ago, so you can 7-10 days off that.

Lots of people selling new Starline brass on gunbroker. I just ordered some from someone who was only marking the price up $10. It was well worth it in my opinion.

They will start accepting them once the next batch is produced.  This has happened several times over the past few months with 10mm.

It was Midway where I saw them the other day.  All gone, now.

I was on Midway a month or so ago and was getting ready to order some.  Looked around for about ten minutes to see if I wanted anything else.  They were gone when I started up my cart.

Took all of ten minutes for them to sell out.

At least Midway finally got some available.  I know they had the nickel plated stuff available for a little while now, but I was really holding out for plain brass.

They are still showing Starline brass-brass in stock, as of 7 am PDT this morning.  They had nickel, but it went very quickly.

I ordered several calibers about 4 weeks ago, should show up in 2 more weeks +/- . None of this is a big thing, I just adapt and plan differently. Heck, I even got a new (4 pice) set of Lee carbide dies for $39 ....... But I had to wait for six weeks on those too .....

I'm not surprised about Starline and 10mm brass availability. Has any recently watched the amount of 10mm ammo that Underwood has produced in the last 5-6 weeks. At least 30k rounds & perhaps a bit more. ;D
