I bought mine used and was looking for another owner with a new/newer one. Today while shooting some Underwood the rear sight elevation screw backed out again. This is after trying Loctite and finally Anti-Sabotage compound on it. I took it apart and think the lower channel where the screws teeth bite in are wore away. Looking for a picture of that! Honestly I would rather swap the whole rear sight out for a Dawson (if possible) or possibly send the slide into EAA. It was used so I don't know if they would swap it out for me.
This happened to me on my wonderfinish compact. I used JB Weld on it. It never fell out again.
So yours is adjustable? I guess Monday call EAA and see what they say. If that doesn't go well see if Dawson has a fit or can make one. Next possibility is do like you said and get it perfectly sighted and apply JB Weld.

Was adjustable. Now it's not. :o
But it's accurate. 8)
Today will be fun. I'm going to call EAA just to see what they say and follow up with a Dawson call (see I am predicting the outcome) and see if they can make me one.
EAA didn't call back after leaving a message with their Lady or on the voicemail. It appears Dawson makes an LPA cut when I spoke to them on the phone today. At this point I'm leaning towards bucking up to a better company.
I would say that is a good call.
They didn't call again today so I did. Second owner so no coverage and 100 for a new one.
Here is my Hunter elevation screw with the knurling on the underside. That's all that I guess holds the position :o

Here is the pocket where the screw fits down into. Can anyone verify a pattern in their Witness that "should" be down there to lock the screw?
My guess is mine has wore away from adjustment and/or movement from recoil. I doubt their being a fix out there using these pieces. You can see I put Anti-Sabotage on the sight in an attempt to keep it locked.

Well the two screws holding it to slide were loose too when I tried them. I ended up backing them out and removing the entire site like cake.
I'm thinking maybe a Henning fixed now if he can get the elevation right:

Dawson responded with that offering. Any thoughts?

It looks like it will fit the notch in the Hunter slide, but what about the screw hole? Is it ruined? Are you gonna have to JB Weld that sucker in there?
I'm just leary of putting the fixed on there and it shooting low with no way to adjust.
Ordered the Dawson today. They deserve a repeat order!
Installed the Dawson sight this evening. Had to do a good bit of filing but it's on there! The pin that rides up against the elevation screw should keep it from moving better than the factory LPA unit. We shall see soon enough!

Well not as expected. It moves which I think the spring loaded piece under it causes this. It also shoots lower than before so I plan on trying to get Henning to come with with something. First though I need to contact Dawson and see if their is anything they can do or possibly return the sight.
Their is a design oversight here. Is their a black JB Weld?
I took a picture after removing the Dawson sight today. This is where I think the design is flawed, because the spring loaded firing pin safety block probably taps the bottom of the sight where it rests in the closest groove. IMO that is what is causing it to move when firing as it also wears the elevation screw. Henning's fixed might work but the blade will be up an inch from the rear now and it will look odd with the second groove empty.

Could you make a plat out of aluminum or steel to fill the unused slot? Blueing, black paint or coating to match the color of the slide? ???
I'm leaning towards putting the stock LPA sight on but don't know how to keep the darn screw from spinning.
It seems the weakness in all the Witness line-up is the sights!
I did as suggested and did a Chlorine free oil clean today with Gumout. Installed the factory sight back on using Loctite blue on the mounting screws (hopefully that holds better than the factory!). Next phase is to do a dry adjustment counting turns/position to the proper POI. Take the elevation screw back out, apply red Loctite and attempt setting the elevation back to the dry run position. Put away for a couple of days and see if it holds! Someone said they did the same thing to an AK-47 muzzle break and it's still holding 13 years later.
Just applied the red Loctite after going 4 full turns down like in the dry sighting today. Hopefully it stays put next time out and forever :-X
Red should do the trick.
Shot plenty of Underwood and American Eagle through it today and no movement. I think I can keep it!
